Expand the storage on your Windows system and back up photos, video, music, and documents using the silver 2TB My Passport Ultra USB 3.0 Type-C External Hard Drive from WD. This drive is equipped with 2TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. If your computer doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Windows, it comes preformatted NTFS for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable NTFS driver for macOS, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Mac compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

all my storage and computer drives are WD; never a problem. The ‘My Passport Ultra are my travel backup drives. This is the 3rd generation from WD I’ve owned. Light, compact; perfect for travel.

With an external hard drive, it is very good to have nothing to report. I have partitioned this drive and I use it as a backup. So far this drive has worked fine, presenting no problems and it looks good.

USB 3 performance is great. USB powered is convenient and better than ac power. Footprint is good space saver for desk and travel, little larger than deck of playing cards. As years go by tech basics hopefully gets better and less expensive. Some stuff become obsolete, some are still necessity. This 2TB was destination transfer and back-up of older smaller external drives. Consolidation: although I wouldn’t recommend putting everything CRITICALLY IMPORTANT onto one large electronic/ mechanical drive, but personal prudence should be in effect. Selected most important files and transferred those onto Solid State flash drive. SSD are currently the safest electronic medium but large capacity are very expensive at the moment.

I have 9 external drives and 3 are WD Passport. I use this one for backup and I take home with me and use it with my laptop to edit photos and send off orders to my lab.

i bought this drive to use as a Time Machine backup. It was easy to set up and seems to be working fine so far ! I like the little rubber feet to prevent movement and the included adapter so I could use kit with my older MacBook Pro.

I own several WD portable hard drives. This new one works perfectly.

I already had several WD hard drives, all working great. This one seems to be just as good. The only thing I was sort of expecting this time was a USB-C cable (3.1) instead of the standard USB, given that the new laptops will likely have USB C.

Great portable drive works with Apple’s Time Machine software but you have to reformat the drive for their filesystem. The white model cost $ more than the other colors apparently because Mac owners who buy this all want the white version. You can save $ by just buying another color.

My Passport Ultra 5TB portable drive arrived today. As soon as I began to transfer video files from my older My Passport 2TB that I have had for years to the new drive, the new drive began to click. AKA as the Click Of Death. I googled the problem and people have reported data loss from this faulty drive. The question is, with a drive that has a reputation of having issues, why is it still on the market. Does WD get a kick of people losing their valuable data?????

I am a fan of Western Digital, but the last external I had was a few years old and was always quite slow. However, after doing my research, I found this My Passport HDD had a good capacity (1TB) to form factor proportion, has USB 3.0, AND comes with the PRO WD software included for under $100 bucks. No other manufacture offers all of that for that price (at least, as of this review). Needless to say, I wanted one and it turns out so did a lot of other people because everywhere it was sold out – even *! B&H was the only place I found them and I had heard good things. I was worried about shipping costs but there was a free option if you could wait a few days and I received my drive as promised. The drive is really fast (of course it will be slower using USB 2.0) and quiet and I love it so far!
