Expand the storage on your Windows system and back up photos, video, music, and documents using the silver 2TB My Passport Ultra USB 3.0 Type-C External Hard Drive from WD. This drive is equipped with 2TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. If your computer doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Windows, it comes preformatted NTFS for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable NTFS driver for macOS, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Mac compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

As far as a backup device, it’s fine. Hardware is easy to install but the software interface leaves much to be desired. The manual is laughable. I think Obamacare works better. You have to make many guesses about what to do. But once up and running it takes care of itself.I’m using it to back up my ENTIRE C: drive but there are a handful of files it cannot back up because they are constantly in use. If you are looking for a bootable mirror image of your C: drive then use a RAID.Initially it took overnight to back up the C: drive.

While this drive is not the fastest kid on the block, it works very well with a laptop on the go. In spite of USB 3.0, the 5400 rpm drive limits your write speed. Powering the drive directly from the USB port is huge – not having to carry around another power brick or a wall wart is great!

I bought this drive as a second backup for my MacBook Pro. My primary backup drive is a thunderbolt that I use each time I add significant data. I backup to the second drive about once a month and keep it in the safe deposit box at my bank. While I like the speed of the thunderbolt drive, I thought the USB 3.0 would be fast enough and maybe even as fast. I couldn’t find any test that actually compared the two drives. The difference in speed between this Passport USB 3.0 and other USB 2.0 drives that I have used is like night and day. That said, its still not as fast as the thunderbolt drive. But for the way I’m using the drive I’m more than satisfied with the speed. After having a little time with the two drives, I don’t think its worth the difference in money to use a thunderbolt drive for backup. However, if you need an external drive for a scratch disk or second boot drive, then the thunderbolt is worth considering. I’ve used WD drives in the past and have always been satisfied with them just as I am with this new Passport. In addition to the other qualities, the size of the drive is very nice as space in my safe deposit box is at a premium

I use this terrific portable Hard Drive to use with my MacBook Pro. I like how compact it is so that is highly portable very quiet and is built like a tank. Can’t think of anything that is not so great about it. Except, that you have to follow the procedure to set it up if you are using it with a Mac computer. Will have to pass on that one! I HIGHLY recommend this unit. GET ONE!

I wanted a large capacity hard drive that didn’t need external power. I have used Western Digital Passport drives before and have been very pleased. This drive is USB-C and fast. It’s simple, just attach the cable, plug it in and it just works. B&H has a great price. I’m glad with this purchase.

So far, so great (I’ve had it less than a year). I use it to automatically back-up everything on my desktop pc. It does just that, unobtrusively (it’s very compact and silent). Only the blinking light assures me it’s doing anything. It looks and feels rugged. I’m impressed that Western is confident enough in its product to include a three-year warranty (limited of course); not that I would ever test a hard-drive to its limits. At this price point, I will replace it within the next year. It’s USB-powered, another plus (I have more ports than ac plugs). I’m totally satisfied.

Have been using it now for about 3 weeks and it is quick enough to hold all of my photos and easily transfer on and off them as I need to edit them. The only gotcha is that if you are using this on a Mac you need to reformat the drive for HFS.

Plug and play, unless you want to schedule back-up. Even then I’d guess it’s easy to set up althought I haven’t. Great buy.

It’s small, portable, seems to be well built and I’ve never had a problem with it! This is my third one I’ve purchased this year! Reasonable price for that much storage as well. I love having tiny drives that don’t clutter up my desk!

WD drives have been very dependable for me. I have at least 5 currently, but as prices have dropped and drive sizes have grown over the years, the 2T drives are perfect for backing up 12+ years of photos and files. In addition to my TimeMachine Backup, I now own two WD soldiers 2T drives, duplicating my backup. One drive is kept at home, the other off site. I’m finally organized with backing up my important data thanks to these two 2T portable WD drives. My WD drives have provide for me peace of mind at a reasonable price with my important data and images.

I love this drive. It is fast, compact, and has 2TB of storage. The included backup software is automatic and very helpful. And the encryption gives peace of mind if the drive is ever lost or stolen. I highly recommend this drive.
