Expand the storage on your Windows system and back up photos, video, music, and documents using the silver 2TB My Passport Ultra USB 3.0 Type-C External Hard Drive from WD. This drive is equipped with 2TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. If your computer doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Windows, it comes preformatted NTFS for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable NTFS driver for macOS, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Mac compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

It is compact in size using 2.5 hard drive and OK for data transfer in terms of speed with its UPB 3.0 port. The data speeds though are purposely exaggerate and misleading as they refer to the theoretical data movement speed through the USB 3.0 bus and not the actual write speed of the hard drive. Actual write speed for sequential writes as when using it for backups is 101 MB/s or a fourth of what is claimed even with USB 2.0. Forget about 5GB/s which is stated by Western Digital. There is no RAID as with the LaCie double drive units so this should not be used as anything other than temporary additional storage for data.

This little hard drive packs a punch! It’s a great price for a phenomenal device and I couldn’t be happier.

All of the drives that I own are WD’s. I find them to be extremely reliable and quiet. This one is no different. It only requires one cable to function and very portable. I am going to purchase another very soon.

Easy to transfer files and small enough to store.

I teach a digital photography class, usually 16 students or so. Part of their course fee purchases an external hard drive for archiving photos and as a base location for image storage for Adobe Lightroom. I’ve used the Passport brand hard drives and they have always been reliable and durable.

So far so good! I use several WD drives for backup and pictures. Been using 2tb and getting full… have 3 identical drives for backup of all photos. This is my first 3tb, will update others soon.

Easy to set up. Transfered all my pictures easily. Using as my external hard drive just for my pictures.

I bought this to keep backups of my document, photo and music files in a safe location. I’ve used the 500 GB and 1 TB versions successfully, and this one works just as well.

I use this drive for my iMac Time Machine backups. I have 2 and use the 2nd one to keep off premises. It is very small and quiet when in use. Being so small I can take it with me easily; like when I went to Austria last summer. My one complaint is that the cable is very short; not long enough to reach the floor. For the one I keep connected all the time I got a longer cable so I don’t have to keep it on my desk. I can’t speak to the software. I erased it and formatted it for my iMac, having no interest in the software.

I use this drive for archiving video recordings, and it’s handy for that, as it’s small in size and is USB powered, and doesn’t use a separate power supply.

I use this to back up my OTHER external harddrive with all of the weddings / portraits I shoot. It’s compact and easy to use. Plus, if formatted correctly you can use it on a PC & Mac!

It is compact, portable and works well. This is the second one I have owned with no problems. I have had significant issues with lack of support for a WD MyBook Live Duo networkwork drive but not with the My Passport Drives.

I have a morbid fear of losing my computer information. Just before I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 I bought this, my 2nd passport so I have a duplicate backup. Plugged this newest passport in and it worked automatically and I now have peace of mind because of this. Plus got a great price from B &H and a 3 year warranty for $5 more than a refurbished passport with only a 3 or 6 month warranty. Highly recommend. The W10 upgrade went smoothly and now I no longer worry about losing my information/data. Plus B & H shipped priority mail at no charge.

I bought this unit as a replacement for my previous 2TB My Passport Ultra, which unfortunately stopped working (and lost all information stored) after falling from the sofa I was sitting on. I know that HDDs are not SDDs, but WD could at least equip such portable units with a more rugged construction, capable of withstanding minor falls. It is a very good product, but it has to be handled with care!

Nice drive size, great that it is powered by the USB port, however only capable of 3.6GB of storage. Window drivers for 64 bit system will cause Page_Fault_In_Nonpage_Area, DPC_watchdog_violation when you restart, reboot, or recover from sleep. I would not buy this until a new version of firmware is available for it. I have a 3GB Passport and it is firmware v2, it does not have this problem. WD is no help at all.

I got this to replace a WD 2TB backup drive; the footprint of this drive is the same as my 2TB, but t’s a tiny bit thicker. I’ve only had this for a couple weeks so I can’t comment on long-term reliability, but so far it performs as expected: it’s fast (for a small USB drive), quiet, and doesn’t run hot (to touch) when copying a large number of files at once.
