Expand the storage on your Windows system and back up photos, video, music, and documents using the silver 2TB My Passport Ultra USB 3.0 Type-C External Hard Drive from WD. This drive is equipped with 2TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. If your computer doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Windows, it comes preformatted NTFS for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable NTFS driver for macOS, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Mac compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

I actually bought this because the first version of this died and is no longer eligible for warranty. Im hoping that this is durable and would last longer. The packaging shows auto cloud backup, but it’s actually limited to your dropbox account. I thought it will be 1TB of free cloud backup. It really is deceiving marketing!

Transfer speeds (what else is this for?) are quite good. USB 3.0 transfer speeds are far better than its predecessor. Transferred 400GB in a few (less than 4) hours. The backup software is the usual free software, upgrade-able to Pro for a fee. Backup software, while mostly successful, is nothing to write home about. Diagnostic is even more simplistic – nothing too complicated. OK status to tell you the test passed. That’s it. My older WD drive has lasted me 5+ years with no problems. Hoping this does as well. I’ll just delete the ‘free’ software utilities.

I have two of these drives along with three 1st-generation Passports (all 2 TB). I run them USB 2.0 through a powered USB hub connected to my laptop. On this drive I mostly store video (VOB) and music files (mostly .wav) and never run into any problems watching movies or listening to music. (Many people cite arcane speed data that in my experience has very little meaning in real-world usage. I never experience any lags or slowdowns due to USB 2.0.) The drive is lightweight, runs relatively cool, and is completely silent. I like that WD no longer pre-installs backup programs on these drives. All applications are contained in a folder on the drive, so installing is completely optional and up to the user. I do recommend the diagnostic program that is included.

Like the headlines say. It delivers on the promise.

Delivered ready to use on a Windows or OSX computer: Connect the drive and you’re set to go. In my case, I reformatted it for use win OSX only. Cost? Economical. Sure you can indeed larger capacity drives, but I believe 1TB is large enough to hold pretty much all that is in my computer.

Great little hard drive. Cheap… But I bought it to store movies on both my WD Media Player and Iomega Media Player. Neither one of them recognized it. So, unless you’re using for a specific USB 2.0 connection, note it isn’t compatible with everything. Otherwise, it’s a good drive ….

This is my 5th one. They are small for traveling and hold just enough. B&H has the drives at the best value

This is a compact external hard drive that works well for back up to my laptop. It is small and sleek and is working well so far. The owner manual is not helpful at all. I had to call the company to see how to view my backup and sort through all the many files. There are so many root folders and they are confusing to sort through to get to your backup files, but once you figure it out (and write it down) you can easily access your backup. So far, I would recommend. The price is right!

No need to find a power outlet, hook everything up, only to find out the power outlet is just a foot to far away from the computer… Just one tiny cable! It is detachable from the drive, but in my opinion that wouldn’t even be necessary. Basically I’m saying I’m using this as one big fast USB stick.

I replaced an old Passport, due to not enough space. It was simple to install and get up and running. Backups have run fine.

I’ve been using the 1, 2 and 3TB versions of this drive for years, I have at least 6 of them. I edit HD video with Premiere Pro directly from the drive and notice no speed issues. I should also knock wood, especially after writing this review, because I have never had one fail.

Have been using this drive for now about a month, and absolutely loving it. I use it now as my main back up and storage drive, and put about 3 old drives worth of content on it, and use old ones as secondary back up… yeah maybe too much, but love how much space this one has, and the security password, and other options that come with it make it even better. Haven’t been happier with a drive before like this one. Definitely recommended.

I like it very much. I generally use for my bird photos.

I bought this drive to backup my laptops loaded with Window 7 and Windows 8.1. Just plug the drive into a USB 2 or 3 port and in a few seconds it’s ready. I’ve created a system image as well as a copy of my user files. I haven’t used the included backup software so I really can’t comment about it. It’s small, light and comes with its own pouch and cable. They’re fairly inexpensive so I bought a couple of them. I’ve only had them for a couple of weeks so I really can’t talk about their predicted reliability. I keep them on a cool metal surface when they’re running just to keep them cool.

Easy to use. Fast. Compact and light weight. I use them constantly to store all of my photo files, and keep one in my safe deposit box (on a rotation schedule) at all times — it’s small size makes it easy. I did have one crash on me recently after two years of hard use, but I didn’t hesitate to replace it with an identical model.
