The WD My Book Duo 12TB USB 3.0 RAID Array features two 3.5″ drive bays that each sport a 6TB hard drive to provide a total capacity of 12TB for USB Type-C and USB Type-A systems. The two included hard drives are WD Red drives designed for high-performance and reliability. WD has configured the drives in RAID 0 and lets you reconfigure them in RAID 1 or JBOD, using the included WD Drive Utilities software program. The My Book Duo comes with a USB 3.0 Type-C port, plus a USB 3.0 Type-C to Type-C cable and a USB 3.0 Type-C to Type-A cable. With RAID 0 and USB 3.0 technology, the My Book Duo delivers sequential read speeds of up to 360 MB/s.
Other notable features include a 2-port USB 3.0 Type-A hub, which expands the host system’s connections, and AES hardware encryption that helps prevent unauthorized access to sensitive data. In addition, the My Book Duo is pre-formatted in NTFS for Windows systems and requires a reformat for use with Mac.

I love how easy it was to set this up for my Mac and use it as a way to back up all of my wildlife photographs.

The HDD setup hit the spot for my needs. It took a little bit to get it set up for a mirror configuration vs a stripe, but now I’m confident it is running well and I have faith, from experience, in WD reliability.

I ordered this wd 16tb raid unit to replace a failed 12tb wd my book duo raid unit. After much more research, much to my dismay, despite the settings to mirror the drives, THE DATA WAS IRRECOVERABLE , by me, wihout large expense. These wd raid enclosures use AES hardware encryption that helps prevent unauthorized access. That means you, the owner of the data. If the enclosure fails, as appears they too frequently do, you are out of luck. This is hardly a good solution for data safety. Be aware the AES hardware encryption that helps prevent unauthorized access cannot be user selected as it should be. It is reliant on the circuit board in the enclosure. BTW, wd cannot see fit to sell replacement enclosures. A bad choice for data security and I’m returning the package from BH unopened. Incidentally, the two original 6TB drives still work fine albeit after a reformat which erased all my archived data.

Maybe a year after buying, it began ejecting. Support couldn’t fix the problem. They replaced it, but that one started ejecting, too. I’ve tried all the suggestions to fix the problem. Not worth the hassle. At all.
