Expand the storage on your Windows system and back up photos, video, music, and documents using the silver 4TB My Passport Ultra USB 3.0 Type-C External Hard Drive from WD. This drive is equipped with 4TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. If your computer doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Windows, it comes preformatted NTFS for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable NTFS driver for macOS, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Mac compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

WD has never let me down. At this time, although I made quite a lot of research on this, I ended up (again) on WD. This is fast, reliable, and quiet. With this size, I could carry my daily commute.

Purchased this drive to back up three systems. Flawless performance. Nice looking drive. I purchased a case for it too.

This hard drive is slim and good looking, relatively inexpensive, has lots of storage — and I thought it would be easy to use. However, the first thing that I learned is that its software was no longer supported and had to be updated. That was not an easy task. It has automatic backup, but I cannot determine if it is doing so. (When I look on my File Explorer, I see very little.) I have my fingers crossed.

Sufficiently fast and well constructed. It doesn’t feel cheap and flimsy. The storage capacity is great especially for the price. It’s just what I needed for storing photos and videos.

The WD 4 TB Passport Ultra Ext. Drive works great for using the Win 10 File History function. It has been in service for about 3 weeks and no problems have occurred.

Perhaps it is the white, but it doesn’t seem as good quality as last year’s model.

I already had several WD hard drives, all working great. This one seems to be just as good. The only thing I was sort of expecting this time was a USB-C cable (3.1) instead of the standard USB, given that the new laptops will likely have USB C.

This is a very large capacity backup drive for an economical price at B&H. It is easy to install and use. But the WD backup doesn’t seem to back up new or changed files into the designated folder. So to ensure that everything is backed up,. I manually highlight the files and copy them to the backup drive folder, then I do some spot checks to make sure they copied. Perhaps I’m doing something wrong, or perhaps there is an issue with the WD backup software.

They are not the fastest drives, but I just need them for storing my client files, so really like the reliability and price. I always by them in pairs and use Carbon Copy Cloner to keep a backup; so far have never had a challenge with lost data (touch wood :=) Keep mine in plastic Sterilite boxes so they stay dry and clean. They’re on sale about twice a year, so get more when needed.

Looked at several compatible hard drives to connect to my Linksys router for camera video storage. It was so simple, plugged it in, worked instantly. Good value for the dollar. It will take time to test the reliability, but so far, all good.

Very compact. I formatted the drive for HFS+ journaled for my Mac Air, then tested it using the Blackmagic Disk Speedtest software and I was getting approximately 100MB/s read and write speeds. Great for temporary onsite backup of my photos.

Nothing amazing here. I use the hard drive as an external backup for my Windows 10 PC. As expected it’s plug and play; works fine. Would be nice if the USB cable that came with it was longer. I decided to use the Windows backup software, not the Western Digital backup software. A compact design for a 3 TB drive. Powered by the USB cable. Price was good. Delivery was timely. I have a similar 40 GB Western Digital drive I bought in 2001; it’s still working good; that encouraged me to buy this drive.

I’ve used WD Passport for years and never had a problem. They are compact and easy to use. I buy new to accommodate the larger file sizes.
