Expand the storage on your Windows system and back up photos, video, music, and documents using the silver 4TB My Passport Ultra USB 3.0 Type-C External Hard Drive from WD. This drive is equipped with 4TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. If your computer doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Windows, it comes preformatted NTFS for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable NTFS driver for macOS, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Mac compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

Doesn’t work like a back-up hard drive like I thought it would. No different than a USB storage device. I had to copy and paste into it. I get a bunch of error messages- can’t copy this file; need administrator permission; can’t copy that file because it’s in use; can’t copy that file because I can’t find it, etc. I am the administrator; nothing is open except as required to copy and paste the files. The software on the device can’t even find it’s own device; the device actually shows in one tab of the software it comps with, but when I try to run it to back up my system to the device, it says it can’t find the device. How come it can’t find itself to run a back-up? The Toshiba external drive I bought 6 years ago and 2 computers ago was much better. You could just tell it to run the backup and it would save everything. You didn’t have to babysit it and skip a bunch of stuff. Also, the type C connection is supposed to make saving / transfer faster, but it doesn’t; it’s very slow. When I use the adapter to a standard USB connection, it actually runs faster. This device is a waste of money. Just buy a USB drive with a lot of storage.

I own the 4TB My Passport Ultra and it stopped being recognized by my MacBook Pro during photo transfer in Lightroom. Support told me it was gone and gave me a list of businesses to recover the photos; $500-$1300 for recovery services. Do not buy WD products! They don’t stand behind their hardware or software as it’s all 3rd party support charging crazy amounts of money, not if they fail, but when. Very poor business!

We use WD external hard drives for all of our video projects and they have always been reliable, durable and great in performance.

This drive can hold a ton of information and can write fairly quickly (spins at 5400 rpm). Some occasional trouble came up mounting more than one at a time and one of our six drives died after a few days of use. The problem with that is that we can’t open it up and pull the info off with a toaster because inside the drive is essentially one piece.

Purchased 2x 5TB. I have had several My Passport’s over the years, and never had one fail or any issues. I wanted the USB-C ports, as that’s the future and it makes it easy having such a common port. Sure they’re not the fastest drives (compared to SSD), but at this price and HUGE capacity they are ideal for storing photos/videos. I use one as a Plex server. Highly recommend

Although it is the same width as the previous generation, it has a larger space at a low price! Very fast using USB3.0

+ How I use the product: – I buy one of these for every year of work that I have to store both RAW files and their finished JPEGs. – I use the current one to keep my RAW files and .XMP files as I’m editing current projects. + What’s great about this product: – Very portable, slim, and easy to store in my bag! – Fast reads! I’m transferring images at an average of 75MB/sec with USB 3.0 on a 2007 laptop. – I’ve never had any crashes or errors with the data. Very safe from my experience and I’ve been using these since 2007. + What’s not great about it: – I have no complaints.

The product is easy to use. I mostly use it to store pictures that I take. Love the amount of data that I can store and not clog up my personal computer.

We love these hard drives , they are so sleek and take up very little room on your desk. The added attraction of no more bulky power cords makes this a no brainer for our photography studio .

This portable drive was supposed to be a plug and play device but all I kept getting was errors. First I was getting the error The request failed due to a fatal device hardware error, then after several tries and switching of USB port I got the error The file of directory is corrupted and unreadable. I found out about the WD Drive Utilities software, downloaded it and ran the test on the drive which after several tries would not pass the second test. From the same utilities I decided to delete and format the drive and then finally it became what it was supposed to be a simple plug-and-play installation. Just when I was getting ready to call seller to return the drive. So far it seems to be working (kind of slower than I expected but is working). I don’t think I would buy a similar product from same manufacturer again. This experience gave me the feeling that the drive, although working for now, it may break down too soon.

A very good inexpensive method to store and access data both at home and on the road. I have purchased several of these drives and all have worked well. Easy to reformat for use on a MAC.

I actually bought this because the first version of this died and is no longer eligible for warranty. Im hoping that this is durable and would last longer. The packaging shows auto cloud backup, but it’s actually limited to your dropbox account. I thought it will be 1TB of free cloud backup. It really is deceiving marketing!

I’m using this drive to store and edit HD (1080i) media with Premiere on our company’s iMacs. Never a problem with slow data throughput.

Failed in less than a year. I was using it for Time Machine and the disk no longer mounts. Fail in running first aid and erase. Waste of money.

I bought this 1.5 TB as an archive drive to store vacation photos, music and movies. The drive is priced at a very good value – essentially 1/2 terabyte free!Shipping was free, very fast and B&H packaged it with love which is super important for hard disc drives. Based on this pleasant B&H experience, I will always consider your store for all my relevant online purchases. Thanks B&H for caring!!!

Works as I’d expect. Didn’t come with a carrying pouch like my less expensive 1TB version though.
