Expand the storage on your Windows system and back up photos, video, music, and documents using the silver 4TB My Passport Ultra USB 3.0 Type-C External Hard Drive from WD. This drive is equipped with 4TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. If your computer doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Windows, it comes preformatted NTFS for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable NTFS driver for macOS, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Mac compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

I received the HD very quick and for free. Saved me the trip goiong to the store. HD needed to be formatted for Mac but that was done very quickly. I would recommend this HD. Very compact and silent

I like it so very much. It uploaded in an hour what I had failed to upload on another external hard drive in more than 24 hours.

Using this with my MAC PRO 2013 to store Files related to film making. Great price at the time this was written for a 2TB HD USB 3.0. Prices will probably continue to drop as USB – C is rolled out. I have no intention of upgrading computers anytime soon so this is perfect for me.

My Passport Ultra 5TB portable drive arrived today. As soon as I began to transfer video files from my older My Passport 2TB that I have had for years to the new drive, the new drive began to click. AKA as the Click Of Death. I googled the problem and people have reported data loss from this faulty drive. The question is, with a drive that has a reputation of having issues, why is it still on the market. Does WD get a kick of people losing their valuable data?????

This Hard Drive now works well after I used the MAC utility in Catalina to remove undesired pre-instlled programs and then reformat the drive to APFS. The pre-instlled formatting came with confusing instructions and undesired functionality. For me, simple is good.

The 2x 2TB kit drives are the perfect solution for my archive needs. I use 1 for complete backups of 500GB main drive (SSD) and 1TB internal HDD; the other for ongoing photo and document backups. Along with an ongoing 4TB “live” backup of whole system these drives complete a reasonable backup strategy. These drives are really fast and have included USB 3.0 cables.

As always, I highly recommend WD external drives. I own than 20. When this is full, I’ve already bought a new drive to take it’s place. On a regular basis, I back up my digital files on three external WD drives; two portables that I carry with me, and a desk top.
