This drive is equipped with 4TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. If your computer doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Windows, it comes preformatted NTFS for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable NTFS driver for macOS, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Mac compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

I bought the WD Passport to replace my old Seagate external hard drive and I’m very happy with my purchase. It plug’s into a USB 3.0 port (also draws power from the USB port) and sit’s on top of my Desk top CPU unit. I configured my backups using the WD software and also Windows 10 backup and I don’t even think about backing up any more. It does it all for me and works in the background. Couldn’t ask for a better External Hard Drive. If your thinking about buying one, just do it. I highly recommend this product.

Works fine, no fuss, no muss. I use it on a Win XP, USB 2.0, system and a Win7, USB 3.0, system. I use Windows utilities, have not tried any of the WD utilities.

NAS based TimeMachine Backups work great, but not ideal if you need to be portable. I have this hooked up to my dock, and it works great and a bit fast and small too while comparing it w/ older generation ones.

Very easy to use. Didn’t need 500GB, but this was the smallest size I could find! I had a Hitachi portable drive before, which I would not buy again,but decided to go with WD because the reviews were so favorable. And so far, it has met my expectations. B&H also had the best price, which is usually the case on many of their products!

DOWS NOT WORK AND STALLS MY WHOLE MACBOOK OS. Worked for about 2 minutes. I connected to my mbp, which recognized it. Then tried to move some files onto it, upon which process this drive got stuck at certain number of files, and stopped working. Froze my whole operating system. After that the system does not see it, neither in Finder nor in Disk utility, what’s more when I run disk utility with this drive plugged in, not even my hard drive shows up. If I remove it, my hard drive shows up. This is simply a dangerous piece of low quality tech. Unfortunately, I tested this product late, as I was busy with work, so the period for returns had passed. I purchased a Samsung T5 which so far works flawlessly. It is much more expensive so I bought this cheaper drive just to have second backup, but as you can see it is useless.

Been using this drive for a few weeks now. Works great, was super easy to format to use with Mac. 3.0 USB is faster than my old drives. I can edit footage easily and directly off of this in premiere pro cc no problems & no dropped frames. Great hard drive.

The software is very easy to use (which I have heard can be non-user friendly). I have had great experience with this external hard drive compared to my previous ones such as the Toshiba products (mainly due to the software). Great price for such a great product.
