Expand the storage on your Windows system and back up photos, video, music, and documents using the silver 4TB My Passport Ultra USB 3.0 Type-C External Hard Drive from WD. This drive is equipped with 4TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. If your computer doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Windows, it comes preformatted NTFS for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable NTFS driver for macOS, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Mac compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

The price for storage has dropped over time and this drive is a great example of how much you can get for a small cost.

I received the product with expedited shipping with 2 days. It holds lots of data, handy with a chromebook. BUT, why don’t they say 1.81TB? It doesn’t hold 2TB.

I’ve been using Western Digital drives for the past 10 years. To date I have been more than satisfied with each purchase. This drive is no exception to the rule. The passport is great due to being pocket sized (roughly the size of a galaxy s4) and fast at the same time. The backup software is easy to use.

Small, lightweight portable HDD is a great deal for the money. It’s relatively quiet and fast (based on connection, USB 2 or 3). I’ve never had issues with WD drives, so that weighed significantly in my purchase decision, along with features and price. Rated 4-star only because performance over the life of the unit is immeasurable at this time.

Easy to use, just plug usb into computer and it’s set to go. I don’t have usb 3.0 so my experience is not as great as it would be with a faster transfer rate. Nonetheless, it’s light, portable, holds a ton of data, and is reasonably priced.

Good size Portable HD that comes with different colours. Good capacity for backups etc. Only con is that contact with USB connection was not so good with my specific product and quiet often It shows as it is disconnected from the laptop, and had to reconnect.

I like the slim design & more importantly the possibility of having the files safe by adding a password along with setting up regular back up . This is not my On the Go drive when I need top leave my desktop and travel light.

I take a lot of photographs and need a place to process and keep them. This does the trick, fast, easy, and secure.

I use this drive for backup. I have 3 of them and I like the size and speed. They’ve been proven to be very reliable.

I always carry two WD portable drives when traveling So far no problems. I always back-up digital files on, at least, two external drives. These drives are not armored so have to care not to drop or treat roughly. It would surely help if WD would print the size (capacity) of their portable drives on the device.

I had no problem loading the programs that came with it, but they don’t work properly. Reason being, the backup program is proprietary to Western Digital and doesn’t always work like they should. I had to erase/format the entire drive and used the windows backup program which performed flawlessly.

What can I say but, the compact size for traveling is one of the reasons for buying the WD Passport Ultra plus it’s USB power source, no wall wart to plug in. I use it to port my music for DJing and video editing. It’s 3TB is more than enough space for my usage. I highly recommend this unit.

I went to work today and plugged in my HDD only to find out that the drive had failed overnight. It worked fine yesterday and now all of my data is inaccessible and the changes made since my last backup are lost. Having never had an issue like this happen so quickly with a HDD I will most likely never go this route again.

recommended. Nothing to do for a Mac if you get the Mac version. Fast and easy. USBc connection with USB adapter if needed.

Great disks for time machine back up. Now I can keep one off site and cycle the two disks.

I like the look and feel of this portable drive, it’s small enough to carry around and has the storage size for to store all my photos, music and videos. The SamrtWare backup software takes a long time for the initial backup – I had to let it run overnight to backup my 366 GB. Once that is done the subsequent backup runs very quickly.

After trying many, many external drives from multiple brands over the years, I’ve settled on these WD drives as the most reliable, easiest to handle drives for external backups. They *just work*. I purchased the larger 2TB model to serve as an external Time Machine backup for a Macbook Pro laptop with a 500GB internal drive.

Well, this was a disappointment. Worked great right out of the box and thanks to the speed of the USB 3.0, it copied over about 30gb in about 20 minutes. However, the next time I plugged it in, it wasn’t responding. Tried plugging it in to different computers and tried a different cable. Neither worked. Thankfully the drive was supposed to be a backup of a backup. So I didn’t lose the data completely. Anyway, I won’t be replacing it with another one. I can’t trust it at this point.
