Expand the storage on your Windows system and back up photos, video, music, and documents using the silver 4TB My Passport Ultra USB 3.0 Type-C External Hard Drive from WD. This drive is equipped with 4TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. If your computer doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Windows, it comes preformatted NTFS for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable NTFS driver for macOS, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Mac compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

I have used WD HDD for the past 30 years, depending on the workstation and what I used the workstation for, I will get their RED/BLUE/BLACK/GREEN for server series or I used the Passport model for on/off-site for clients when I need to bring in the module I am deploying. WD HDD – depending on the model have a 1-3 year warranty and I love the fact it is literally plug ‘n play. I wish they had more colors as I color-code my workstations and the visual helps identify an external HDD with it’s paired workstation.

I use these drives when shooting larger events and need to dump files to my laptop on site and bring back home to work on my larger/faster iMac. Small in size, large in capacity and that fact that it gets it’s power from the computer without the need for a separate power cord makes them a perfect storage tool for someone on the go. Pick one up and you won’t regret it.

it really is small for 5 tb. however, it is not a full 5tb, (its closer to 4.5) also, transferring from another external harddrive is slow. also, its not too fast to transfer 4gb directly from the hard drive in the computer.it could take a whole day to transfer that much info….

I bought two more of these passports during their last sale. The HD itself works quite well with about 100+MB/s average read/write speeds. I now own 3 2tb passports one of which is already 2 years old and still performing the same as when I purchased it. With this purchase I received one dead passport that would not show up in device manager. This is bound to happen eventually when purchasing any electronics, so I see no reason to fault anyone for that. I contacted B&H and initiated the RMA process. They paid for return shipping and sent a new one out as soon as they received the old one. The package arrived at my home only 1 day after they received my dead drive. The RMA process was fast, painless, and quite simply a breeze compared to many other major online retailers, with very few questions asked. I wrote this review because I am sure there are others like me who hesitate every time they make an online purchase because returns are notoriously painful with many online retailers and often like to pin the blame for a product not working on the consumer. However, I am happy to report B&H has a painless process and I will sleep easy knowing so when I order from them in the future.

5TB is what everyone needs. And they’re cheaper now because of Bitcoin mining.

This is a good hard drive. It worked right out of the box. It was a little thicker than I thought it would be.

This Western Digital 1 TB passport backup drive is great. Pulled it out of the box and was backing up my data within15 minutes. A great drive at a cheap price.

First impressions… Compact and durable. It also looks nice and sleek with the metallic finish. Pretty self explanatory and easy to use, you just hook it up to the USB port and its up and running. No problems yet. Definitely worth it.

I bought 3 of these to get the quantity discount. Big mistake. This hard drive tries to auto install some SES software that is not found on Windows update. I went to the Western Digital website to find out how to get rid of this. One has to download another program from the Western Digital site to block the attempted auto installation of this useless SES driver. If one does not do this then every time one connect the hard drive to their computer it will try to auto install the SES driver. What a piece of junk! I do not need this hassle every time I use this device. Why do companies pollute their hard drives with garbage? I am returning them and buying a different brand.

I bought two Passports USB 3TB maybe a year ago or so (both Ultra) I got the SAME drive a couple of weeks ago and it benchmarked better than the older ones. It performed overall a solid 20% faster. I have no idea about the latter. All drives have the most recent firmware updates.

About four years ago I got a new laptop, custom assembled by the manufacturer. I choose the largest drive 750 GB and they even shrunk that by using it for back-up — Back up on the primary drive!! I like to take RAW photos and those ca 30 GB shots start to take space. So 2TB seemed like a dream and so far I have not been disappointed. I do plan to use it for back-up and to provide space for other things.
