Expand the storage on your Windows system and back up photos, video, music, and documents using the silver 4TB My Passport Ultra USB 3.0 Type-C External Hard Drive from WD. This drive is equipped with 4TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. If your computer doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Windows, it comes preformatted NTFS for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable NTFS driver for macOS, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Mac compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

I have a 4TB WD, 4TB Seagate, and now this 5TB USB-C interfaced WD. I really needed that extra TB for my backup applications, and since I’m on a relatively new Mac Mini, I really wanted a USB-C interface. Drive worked like a charm. Already formatted for HFS+, I just plugged it in, told Time Machine to use it, and off it went. Also backed up a 2TB archive drive through the make with Disk Utility. Again, fast and no issues. And, as usual, B&H delivered promptly with no issues. I’m a happy customer!

This hdd is perfect! The size of a pack of cigarettes, it’s easy to carry around with my laptop. At 1 TB, it’s great either for carrying around photos to process on to dump SDHC while on vacation. The speed on usb3 is crazy, I love it.

WD is know for reliability, the passport ultra is a happy medium between size, price, and portability. I wouldn’t recommend using portable disk drives for everyday use as a primary or heavily used drive or without proper packing for transportation. These types of drives potential to overheat with time by no fan and moving parts that can damage with dropping. With that said, excellent drive for other purposes and very cost effective for a backup or file transfer drive.

Bought this to backup my PC hard disk. Used the WD SmartWare to do automated backups and it seems to work pretty well.

Xbox one memory was really low wiyh the sad 500gb they give you so did some research and like the reviews for this 2tb drive, Took about 2 min from unpacking it to formatting and it was recognized by xbox one and working, this review is about 2 1/2 weeks after purchase and no problems. Worth it, xbox recommends a specific external brand but I think its just because they have a deal with seagate.

I buy one of these each year to back up my photofiles–cumulatively–and each year I purchase twice the storage capacity for the same price as the year before. Can’t beat that!!!

How I use this product: – I have been using the WD My Passport portable HDDs in 2TB sizes since 2009 with no problems to keep my volumes of images + videos as a photographer. It’s where I keep organized archives of finished JPEGs of work I might need to bring up again and RAW files of all my work with their changes. Because I shoot much more, I decided to upgrade to the 3TB size. What’s great about it: – For a portable, self-powered portable HDD, this thing transfers pretty fast with USB 3.0. I usually get speeds around 75MB/sec 120MB/sec using my PC from 2012. It’s very compact and if you get even the neoprene case that they make for it (costs only a few bucks), you can be confident it’ll be safe with decent everyday handling & care. What’s not so great about it: – I feel like you may want to take care of the port where you insert the USB 3.0 cord. It does seem like it can wiggle a bit if you move it around a lot. As with any cords, it’s always a good maintenance measure to take when you keep the cords positioned so it is not bending too much or wiggling. Overall: – I plan to get another one for 2017 when the time comes. I haven’t had any failure and I’ve dropped some of them a couple times on a mildly hard surface, once or twice and they’ve been fine. Good transfer speed and portable size, I like it! =

Useful and easily portable hard drive with sufficient storage and quick transfer rate. Only con is that the connector cord is a bit short for a desktop computer.

Bom custo x benefcio. O programa da WD que vem junto deixa o computador um pouco lento, principalmente se tiver pouca memria. Recomendo s utilizar tais facilidades se necessrio (Backup na nuvem, senha etc.).

I’m using this drive for a back-up drive. I just got it from B&H and so far so good. The only thing is for such a small drive its a little noisy. Almost 3x’s the noise of my portable G-tech drive. But for the money what can you expect.
