Expand the storage on your Windows system and back up photos, video, music, and documents using the silver 4TB My Passport Ultra USB 3.0 Type-C External Hard Drive from WD. This drive is equipped with 4TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. If your computer doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Windows, it comes preformatted NTFS for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable NTFS driver for macOS, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Mac compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

Fast, fast, fast, reliable, enormously spacious, completely bus-powered, elegant, solid yet light, non-smudging aluminum housing, physically small (just a little bigger than a deck of cards), silent, and outstanding build quality compared to most drives in its class which are housed in plastic ? the perfect portable, external HDD for highly reliable backups or transport of large files at an eminently reasonable price.

Took a few minutes, but the backup found the Microsoft back up program and started to back up my files.

My main purpose for this drive is backing up content to store it somewhere safe in case disaster strikes. For this the drive is ideal. The size is quite small (if I would have ever smoked I would possibly say the size of a cigarette box) and it offers 4T (well 3.6GB if you ask Windows) of storage space. When doing my backup I have seen a sustained write speed of 100MB/s which is for such a drive really nice. After copying 2T, the drive case got less warm then my notebook (according to my disc monitor it was reaching 41C – which is a tad warmer then my normal disc drive @38C). I of course not say anything about the long term durability yet, but I hope that by the time I know more about it you won’t be interested in it anymore. 😉

The hard drive required an Internet connection and a submission or your email address to use the drive. Annoying. I sent it back.

The drive is very fast (usb 3.0) and B&H had a great price, no tax or shipping. The best price of anywhere online.

Recently purchased the 2TB gem as part of a portable Premiere Pro 2015 CC rig on an ASUS K501 laptop with a 250gig solid state drive, i7duo core processor and NVida GForce GTX video card. Loaded a 3 minute sequence with roughly 300 source clips and there is no noticeable lag with the clips being store on the USB 3.0 connected drive. Have to say I’m siked to have a fully functioning HD editing platform. This is my third WD drive so as you can see I’m speaking with my dollars when I say it’s been a great drive so far.

While this drive is not the fastest kid on the block, it works very well with a laptop on the go. In spite of USB 3.0, the 5400 rpm drive limits your write speed. Powering the drive directly from the USB port is huge – not having to carry around another power brick or a wall wart is great!

It is compact in size using 2.5 hard drive and OK for data transfer in terms of speed with its UPB 3.0 port. The data speeds though are purposely exaggerate and misleading as they refer to the theoretical data movement speed through the USB 3.0 bus and not the actual write speed of the hard drive. Actual write speed for sequential writes as when using it for backups is 101 MB/s or a fourth of what is claimed even with USB 2.0. Forget about 5GB/s which is stated by Western Digital. There is no RAID as with the LaCie double drive units so this should not be used as anything other than temporary additional storage for data.

Bought this unit because I am finally getting all my photos backed up in one place. Multiple drives all stored nicely onto this one. Previous purchase was a 1 TB device. This not only has more capacity, it is faster. And it matches my laptop!

I had bad experience with WD drives in the past but I decided to give this one a try because the size and portability were a big plus. Well, after 6 months of regular home usage the drive just died. One morning it started clicking and ticking, and I lost more than 1TB of my music and photos collection.

WESTERN DIGITAL’S EXTERNAL HARD DRIVES ARE A GREAT ASSET FOR ENGINEERING AND ACCOUNTING WORK WHEN USING MICROSOFT’S WORD AND EXCELL PROGRAMS. THE HARD DRIVES ARE SECURE, PORTABLE, EASY TO SETUP, EASY TO USE AND GREAT FOR BACKING UP COMPUTERS. A CARRYING CASE FOR THE EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE IS A MUST.
