This drive is equipped with 4TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. If your computer doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Windows, it comes preformatted NTFS for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable NTFS driver for macOS, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Mac compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

I have used WD externals drives for 8 or 9 years now. I have 3 My Books of varying sizes. The My Books were a little inconvenient since they have to be plugged into a wall socket to work. This Passport solves that problem completely. Very compact. Just plugs in to the USB port on my laptop & that’s it! Very portable; easy to take from room to room or on location. plugged into laptop. I had to reformat mine for Mac & Windows exFAT. There were very easy-to-follow instructions on WD’s website. Bought 2 more Passports in bigger 2TB size. Love that they come in colors for quick identification when backing up multiple copies of images.

I used this 2TB hard drive for data transfer and storage, and it is very good. The 3.0 transfer rate is fast, more than twice as fast than when 2.0 storage devices are used. Connectors for cable fit tight. It’s also fast in retrieving stored data. I’m sure I will purchase another.

Seems like a good drive. I only use it for backing up my Music stuff so it will not be on all the time. My only disappointment was the packing job. They through it in a box with two small pillow bubble packing things that were flat (no air in them) on the top only and it was sailing around the box hitting the sides. Hard drives are very sensitive so I hope it lasts. It got banged up during shipping, that’s for sure. This is the only time I got a package from B&H that was packed poorly. Most of the time they do a very good job packing. The person must of been in a hurry?

This is a compact external hard drive that works well for back up to my laptop. It is small and sleek and is working well so far. The owner manual is not helpful at all. I had to call the company to see how to view my backup and sort through all the many files. There are so many root folders and they are confusing to sort through to get to your backup files, but once you figure it out (and write it down) you can easily access your backup. So far, I would recommend. The price is right!

I’ve been using the 1tb model for a while and have been more than happy with it. as it nears the 3 year mark I picked this one up as my primary back up scratch disk and will be re-tiring the 1tb version to a 3rd string back up.

This is my second passport,l use it for my photography. It is very easy to use,and fast. I do a lot of wildlife photography and you only get one chance to get the shot. If my computer should crash,I still have my shots saved on the passport. You can not go wrong with this passport.

I was looking for a portable hard disk to replace an existing 3 year old seagate model. The price was the cheapest i could find for a 1.5TB portable disk and i was amazed to see the slim profile. I bought this drive as a second backup for my MacBook Pro. My primary backup drive is a thunderbolt that I use each time I add significant data. I backup to the second drive about once a month and keep it in the safe deposit box at my bank. While I like the speed of the thunderbolt drive, I thought the USB 3.0 would be fast enough and maybe even as fast. I couldn’t find any test that actually compared the two drives. The difference in speed between this Passport USB 3.0 and other USB 2.0 drives that I have used is like night and day. That said, its still not as fast as the thunderbolt drive. But for the way I’m using the drive I’m more than satisfied with the speed. After having a little time with the two drives, I don’t think its worth the difference in money to use a thunderbolt drive for backup. However, if you need an external drive for a scratch disk or second boot drive, then the thunderbolt is worth considering. I’ve used WD drives in the past and have always been satisfied with them just as I am with this new Passport. In addition to the other qualities, the size of the drive is very nice as space in my safe deposit box is at a premium
