Expand the storage on your Windows system and back up photos, video, music, and documents using the silver 4TB My Passport Ultra USB 3.0 Type-C External Hard Drive from WD. This drive is equipped with 4TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. If your computer doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Windows, it comes preformatted NTFS for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable NTFS driver for macOS, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Mac compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

I’m using this on an old, and HEAVY HP 17.3 laptop. Needless to say, anything that;s added to the laptop bag takes up a lot of room and adds weight to the laptop bag. This drive is small and lightweight. Performance-wise, it’s pretty fast. Sometimes, cloning (with Acronis) can take a long time, especially since my drive is about 3/4 full. I would definitely buy this again AND I probably will, to backup my desktop at home.

I bought this drive to back up my laptop because my hard drive was failing and had to be replaced. I was hoping to do a complete image (clone) of my existing drive. The software that comes with this unit does not have that function. Otherwise the unit works well to back up docs, photos, etc.

The drive is silent and easily formated for my Xbox 360 Elite. The usb cable has one special WD end and is quite short. You have to use an extension cable, since a standard one won’t work, if you want it further than a foot from where it’s plugged in. The cable has to be plugged into the two right-hand usb ports on the Xbox because it’s too fat for the ones on the left side. The blue light blinks constantly, whether the drive is working or on standby – really stupid and irritating. Because of the proprietary cable and blinking light I give it four stars. It shipped fast and was well packaged.

It is plug and play and works just as described and expected. You cannot go wrong with this portable storage device. Good buy. 2 TB should last a very long time. I like that it is small enough to take with me where ever I go, if needed.

I am a beginning photographer and needed extra storage to store RAW files. This portable hard drive was exactly what I needed and I got it at a great price. As a photographer, I am a life long customer of B&H!!

We use drives like these regularly to hand-off files to clients. They are cost effective, widely available, and work on both windows and Mac OS.It is essential to keep track of the included USB cable in order to connect the drive.

It’s small, powers off usb 3.0 or 2.0, and it’s fast. It’s very quiet when running. I had zero problems when transferring data from my 1GB NTFS usb backup drive that uses AC power, to this one which powered directly off the bus. Folks don’t realized just how important being able to power using usb can be. I actually had a power outage yesterday, and the ac powered 1GB turned off. This Western Digital stayed on, and was humming away 🙂

I burn through a lot of HD’s in my business and I’ve found that the WD brand hard drives are the most reliable. I haven’t experienced any trouble with these and I’m currently on my 8th one in 3 years (knocks on wood).

Only slightly bothered that this drive is 2017 model because it passed WD drive tests and seems to be working properly. The software that comes on the drive is also 2017, which is not current. Downloaded more current software from WD website. Like the password security feature. My previous Passport came with a nice cloth bag for storage; this one did not. Bottom line… good value for $45.

I made a huge research on external hard drives before I chose this one, and it didn’t let me down. Fast, convenient, and not too expensive. Great purchase.
