Expand the storage on your Windows system and back up photos, video, music, and documents using the silver 4TB My Passport Ultra USB 3.0 Type-C External Hard Drive from WD. This drive is equipped with 4TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. If your computer doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Windows, it comes preformatted NTFS for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable NTFS driver for macOS, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Mac compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

No kidding…I am a big fan of Western Digital drives and this one is no exception. It’s 1 TB, but actually a little smaller in physical size. The drive has been running wonderfully and fast. I do like it.

no complaints, nice large drive when overseas & want to back up my images RAW + JPEG. I have about 15 WD drives I use for storage and BU to bank for business and Photography, to date no failures.

I would rate 6 or even 7 stars if I could!

I like the size and portability compared to other back up drive and is fast enough to video editing. Seem durable but I have only had it for a month

The drive freezes frequently and is excruciatingly slow. Totally unsuitable for transferring large numbers of photographs. Stay away from this one.

I DJ and have used external hard drives for years. The problem is they aren’t designed to be carried around from place to place, so they go bad and I use lots of music and work. The passport seems to be exactly what I needed, and plan to buy another one within a month. Data transfer speeds are great, and have not had any issues losing data or music.

I use the drive to backup my pc. It is very cheap portable storage that be moved to off-site location. The drive has very fast transfer rate and comes with a backup scheduling software. You can place files on the my-passport and delete them from your PC. The backup software will not delete during the next scheduled backup.

I own 4 WD USB hard drives and they are all excellent and have been ultra reliable. This Titanium is by far the smallest, and it is USB 3.0. A great value for portable storage.

I filled almost the entire drive without mishap, about 3.5TB of data. Ran warm (not hot to touch), no noise. No problems. I have 8 x 2TB My Passport Ultra drives with no problems. I expect this 4TB drive to be have no problems as well. That said, while transferring data, it seemed slower than previous 2TB My Passport Ultra drives, so I did a very informal copying test. 2TB My Passport Ultra (older drive): Ext HD to internal HD: 100MB/s (read speed) internal HD to Ext HD: 60MB/s (write speed) 4TB My Passport Ultra (drive I just bought): Ext HD to internal HD: 70MB/s (read speed) internal HD to Ext HD: 37MB/s (write speed) So, while the 4TB drive is still plenty fast, it is significantly slower than the 2TB drive. If storage capacity and reliability are top priorities, it’s a good unit for the price. If you’re counting on the speed, then the 2TB drive is a clear winner.

I was looking for a small, lightweight, fast USB 3.0 external hard disk for my laptop. The drive/cable weights 6.1oz (176g). Looking at various USB drive comparisons it ranks rather high for USB 3.0 transfer speeds (it is fast on my laptop) and mid-pack for USB 2.0 speeds (on my desktop). It works nicely for backing up my photos/videos and transferring data between systems. It has hardware encryption of the data which saves me from using virtual drive software. A good buy 😉

I am finally getting to use one of these drives on my Macbook Pro – I sent the first one back to WD after calling customer service. The same thing happened to the replacement, but luckily the customer service person the second time around managed to talk me through the trouble-shooting. They are optimised for Windows, and if you go through downloading all the WD utilities for Mac and so on and then try to do anything before doing a fiddly reformatting with Disk Utility, the drive will just keep crashing. Second time round this was fixed by uninstalling the WD application and rebooting the Mac, then going through Disk Utility. The website troubleshooting page can also talk you through this quite clearly. The first customer service person was helpful for getting me a return sorted out, and the second one was very patient talking me through the troubleshooting. Not for the technically faint-hearted though. If you want to just plug in and back-up, find something else if you are a Mac user. It is currently taking about 20 minutes to back-up 18Gb of data, I don’t know if that counts as fast these days or not….

We bought this to replace a backup drive that crashed at work. It is nice and compact – which I like since I take one off site each week. I can just slip it in my purse. We have now ordered two – in different colors. So, no mistake as to which is which. We have only been using it about a week, so I cannot comment on durability. But, so far, so good!

I have been using these drives since I switched to USB 3.0 All of them are still working however I will say that at times my MacBook Pro has trouble ejecting them and I have to force quit to eject the drives don’t know why it does that… Also I like the fact that you can password protect the passport drives.
