Compatible with computers running Windows and Mac OS, this hard drive connects to your system’s 3.5″ bay via the SATA III 6 Gb/s interface.
In terms of speed, this drive operates using WD’s IntelliPower rotational speed. This means that rpm speed of the drive depends on the operations being performed. If the drive is performing mostly sequential reads and writes, its speed will be increased as compared to if it were performing mostly random mode operations. This 4TB drive also features a 64MB cache to help ensure uninterrupted data transfers. Included with this hard drive are mounting screws.

The green drive is not WD’s highest performance drive, but I was happy to get read speeds of 117 MB/sec and write speeds of 70 MB/sec when plugged into a SATA card on a 4-year old computer. I was gonna use it to replace the drive in an older WD MyBook. It worked, but was slow, so I put it inside the computer; I did not want to waste its speed.

i needed some big-time storage and this fit the need. formatted the drive and now it’s ready to move files. ntsf format took about 7 hours. it’s new so i can’t attest to the longevity, but i’ve not had many problems with the wd drives i’ve had over the years.

I bought this for my DVR in my ZModo Surveillance system due to the 5400 RPM, and it was recognized and was formatted easily within the menu. The operation is quiet and cool, not warm to the touch, low power saving. It formats down to 1.84GB after the Linux formatting of the drive, Windows is close to that. I hope that it lasts a long time. I have only been using it for about a week. Packaging was great.

The sale price was OK and I bought this hard drive to use it as an external storage for my videos, photos, music, e-books and various documents. Yes, it is only 5400RPM but for a storage it is OK. I decided to placed it into 3.5-inches SATA HDD Hard Drive Enclosure to avoid a bottleneck because I use SSD as a system drive and another internal SSD as a storage. It is hard to give 5 stars after 2 weeks but I hope it will be fine. This hard drive is quiet. Do not try to copy a lot of large files ( especially video files) at once because it may take hours. The best is to transfer files in the amount no more than 20-30Gb. If you use Windows, the actual useful space is 5,587GB and this is normal. MAC allows to use all 6TB. It took about 10 minutes to put the hard drive in Enclosure and make it ready for use. I use old DELL XPS with 17-3770 with 3.4Ghz, 32GB RAM. The time from the turning the enclosure power “ON” until the drive is accessible is about 10 seconds. By comparison for my older 1TB external hard drive with 7200RPM it takes about 5 seconds. The only way to be sure that you will not lose files because of hard drive failure is to store same files on two different drives: I doubt that two drives can fail together at same time.

This drive is great but it’s meant for archiving/backup. I think even the box says everyday storage. You should always use 7200RPM for your main OS. This drive is 5400RPM. And again, it’s perfect for archiving or backing up your files, media, etc. Highly recommend getting.

Lots of capacity for big files such as video files. However this drive is only 5400 rpm and that reduced speed does show when copying large files. Also, this drive gets VERY HOT. In fact so hot it will burn your skin. I used this drive to back up about 250GB of video files over Thunderbolt 2 mounted in a drive dock. Slow, very hot and a bit noisy. Spend a little more and get a better drive unless your needs are only occasional, then this drive will suffice.

I thought that the master slave pin would be included but it wasn’t. I think its only applicable with an IDE connection anyways, but once i opened up disk management in windows and connected the drive its been smooth sailing. Purpose: Additional storage for In-Home LAN to free up space from SSD where data was being stored.

I ordered four of these drives, 3TB Desktop Mainstream HDD Retail Kit (WD30EZRX,Green), after one of my 4 year old Seagate HDDs failed in my Synology NAS device. I ordered on a Tuesday, best price I could find anywhere on the Internet (especially for retail kit), with the free expedited shipping and the drives arrived on Thursday. Amazing experience and one that will definitely encourage me to order from B&H again.After backing up the data from my existing drives, all four WD drives were carefully unpacked and installed in my NAS. I did a fresh install of the Synology DSM operating system and told it to create a RAID volume on the four drives. The initial RAID volume creation, parity check and data scrubbing functionality took approximately 24 hours to complete.I checked the drive temps periodically and none of the drives got over 95-100 degrees fahrenheit (even after 24 hours of activity) and I could barely hear the drives if I put my ear against the front of the NAS. After the RAID volume was created I checked the SMART readings and all four drives were in great shape, no reallocated sectors, no read errors, etc.I started copying data back over to the NAS and overall the performance was very close to what I was getting on my old drives which were SATA II and 7200 RPM. The new drives are also much quieter and run a good bit cooler.The only negative I can find with the whole experience is that three of the drives (which shipped together) show a model number equivalent to the Green drives, WD30EZRX, as stated in the product description. The other drive (which shipped from another warehouse) shows a model number equivalent to the Red drives, WD30EFRX. The firmware revision, cache size and rotation speed are the same on all four drives. I can only assume that Western Digital packages both the Green drives and the Red drives in the retail Mainstream Retail HDD Kits since they are nearly identical. Also, the reduction of the warranty on all hard drives as capacities increase is a bit discouraging, but 2 years is better than the 1 year some other companies are offering now.Overall I am very pleased with my purchase and the drives so far. As always, your mileage may vary with hard drives as anything can happen during shipping and there are bad units from the factory. I just hope that these drives hold up for as long as the last set of drives I had in my NAS.

I had to RMA the first disk I got from B&H. It has died on the second day of my tests (I always test my disks before use). Western Digital replaced the failed disk and the replacement survived five days of Bart’s Stuff Test 5 just fine. Now my Time Capsule is 6TB and that’s enough for my 2.5TB worth of apple gear. It’s minus one star for RMA hassle (one has to accept such things nowadays).

I was using a WD 4 TB Green for Windows 10 File History, but it was nearing full capacity (raw photo files do that :-). B&H had this 6 TB for a good price. Now I have plenty of additional space (for the time being!). I had to delete a couple of files from Windows for it to recognize the new drive, but thus far, it is working just fine.
