Store and access up to 4TB of your files in a desktop computer, NAS device, or RAID array using the 4TB Blue SATA III 3.5″ Internal HDD Retail Kit from WD. 4TB will allow you to store movies, photos, music, documents, and much more. Compatible with computers running Windows and Mac OS, this hard drive connects to your system’s 3.5″ bay via the SATA III 6 Gb/s interface.
In terms of speed, this drive operates using WD’s IntelliPower rotational speed. This means that rpm speed of the drive depends on the operations being performed. If the drive is performing mostly sequential reads and writes, its speed will be increased as compared to if it were performing mostly random mode operations. This 4TB drive also features a 64MB cache to help ensure uninterrupted data transfers. Included with this hard drive are mounting screws.

Tested fine, runs nice a cool / quiet. Ideal as a D: storage drive. WD well packed. B&H packaging is a meh. Item was sliding around in the box as usual.

I bought 2 of these drives for use in a Seagate STCT100 2-bay NAS enclosure, running SimplyRAID (Seagate’s modified version of RAID 1). Prior to installation I disabled the Intellipark/Idle3 feature using the wdidle3.exe app from WD, setting the timer to 300 seconds. As far as I can tell these drives do not support TLER. The drives have been running continuously for about a week at temperatures ranging from 38-45C, with no problems. No formal throughput testing yet, but the drives have been able to stream 1080 over WiFi (n and ac) without problems. Noise isn’t much louder that the enclosures cooling fan which is already pretty quiet.

I am using it as internal backup, and the same as main hard-drive. It is a reliable and wonderful device.

This is a standard WD Green inside a blue box retail package. I don’t know why they put it in a blue box. Seems deceptive. Runs extremely cool! Also quiet. MUCH cooler and more quiet than my 6TB HGST Deskstar. 100MB/sec vs 160MB/sec average. Great drive for archiving massive data (@75MB D800 raw photo library archives for me). Fast enough for browsing, but too slow for a working drive. When I want to work on a folder with hundreds of files, I move them over to my 1TB Evo, work on them, then move them back.

These drives are priced right and seem to be perfect for backing up large data files.

I was using a WD 4 TB Green for Windows 10 File History, but it was nearing full capacity (raw photo files do that :-). B&H had this 6 TB for a good price. Now I have plenty of additional space (for the time being!). I had to delete a couple of files from Windows for it to recognize the new drive, but thus far, it is working just fine.

As with my prior review, this is only for the picky purists: The latest one I got is an SMR (shingled) drive (the -AZ version number), not like the hard-to-find older CMR version (the -RZ version number) that had certain advantages. Looks like my previous purchase just a couple months back was using up old stock. But what can you do… SMR is the way big drives are going these days. It is still a decent drive.

Intalled this in a 7 year old Dell XPS 410 computer running Windows 7 as a 2nd drive for photos/backup, as my primary 500GB hard drive was getting full. This was my first time doing this, but installation was very simple after viewing some info on the Dell website, and a few online how to videos. Drive was up and running in about 20 minutes. No problems so far.

Having good luck with WD drives, this was on sale and is now working great! It has replaced a 2TB and a 1TB drive. Now I have room to grow.

Easy to install and connect. I am using this hard drive with Intel Optane to speed it up and it works great.

The deal was too good to backup. I purchased these for a hobby build of an UNRAID NAS I’ve only had them in service for about a week. While I’m sure there are more professional drives for my task again this was a hobby build.

Used this device for my operating system after a hard crash. Product arrived on time, and in great shape. Running smooth as a baby’s bottom. Good price as well.
