Store and access up to 6TB of your files in a desktop computer, NAS device, or RAID array using the 6TB Blue SATA III 3.5″ Internal HDD Retail Kit from WD. 6TB will allow you to store movies, photos, music, documents, and much more. Compatible with computers running Windows and Mac OS, this hard drive connects to your system’s 3.5″ bay via the SATA III 6 Gb/s interface.
In terms of speed, this drive operates using WD’s IntelliPower rotational speed. This means that rpm speed of the drive depends on the operations being performed. If the drive is performing mostly sequential reads and writes, its speed will be increased as compared to if it were performing mostly random mode operations. This 6TB drive also features a 64MB cache to help ensure uninterrupted data transfers. Included with this hard drive are mounting screws.

Some of the customer reviews on this WD 3TB drive will make you think this is a WD Green Drive. Even the product photos on this B&H product listing will make you think it’s a Green drive but, it’s not. I ordered it and I received a 3TB WD Blue drive. This is what I really wanted anyway but, I was settling for the Green Drive since it seemed like this was all that was available from B&H as WD in 3TBs. I replace my internal boot drives every two to three years and then repurpose them to Time Machine Drives or I put them in less important workstations. But, in the last 10 years, I have never ever had a Western Digital hard drive fail on me. The Seagate drives, fail with predictability, but WD drives are solid for those of us who are using our hardware to make a living. Thank you B&H.

Needed to upgrade one of the drives in my NAS and this filled the bill with the size and price.

If you’re like me and require massive storage, but prefer to minimize use of NAS & RAID arrays, these ‘green-label’ WD drives are the answer. I own seven and have more on order. I use them in conjunction with the Highpoint Rocketstor thunderbolt HDD dock (available from B&H). I keep active Final Cut editing projects on a G-tech 8tb drive thunderbolt drive, backing them up to these WD 4tb greenies. Back-ups scream along at thunderbolt speed, and at these prices multiple volumes for protection are very affordable.

For those who care about conventional vs Shingled drives: The ones I bought here are the WD Blue drives, internally WD60EZRZ, thus CMR and not SMR drives. (Which matches having the 64MB cache unlike the larger one used for SMR drives.) Most people probably don’t care, especially for desktop use, and the trend is to SMR, but I thought I would mention it.

The sale price was OK and I bought this hard drive to use it as an external storage for my videos, photos, music, e-books and various documents. Yes, it is only 5400RPM but for a storage it is OK. I decided to placed it into 3.5-inches SATA HDD Hard Drive Enclosure to avoid a bottleneck because I use SSD as a system drive and another internal SSD as a storage. It is hard to give 5 stars after 2 weeks but I hope it will be fine. This hard drive is quiet. Do not try to copy a lot of large files ( especially video files) at once because it may take hours. The best is to transfer files in the amount no more than 20-30Gb. If you use Windows, the actual useful space is 5,587GB and this is normal. MAC allows to use all 6TB. It took about 10 minutes to put the hard drive in Enclosure and make it ready for use. I use old DELL XPS with 17-3770 with 3.4Ghz, 32GB RAM. The time from the turning the enclosure power “ON” until the drive is accessible is about 10 seconds. By comparison for my older 1TB external hard drive with 7200RPM it takes about 5 seconds. The only way to be sure that you will not lose files because of hard drive failure is to store same files on two different drives: I doubt that two drives can fail together at same time.

Ok I was skeptical. I have 4 TB drives that were filling up fast. Are we ready for 6TB DRIVES? HELIUM? access speeds? ok so I installed the drive, formatted, copied the existing. I now have the 2 TB spare space working as good as the 4tb drives. Easy, fast simple no problem.

B&H had a great deal and Payboo took the sting out of sales tax. Lots of storage to offload video files from my laptop and my desktop SSD drives.

This was an upgrade HDD for my system. I was able to install the drive quickly and install Win 7, the drive has good speed 7200 RPM. It is a good deal for the money

This is my fourth WD 4TB Green drive, which I use for backups and archiving. These drives are reliable at a good cost/TB. I have been using two of them striped together in a 8TB partition for a year without a single problem. With drives like this it has become so inexpensive to keep multiple backups of even the largest image databases that data loss problems have become a thing of the past.

This is a fine product for what i use it for, serving files via network. I have three NAS devices, all using WD green HDDs. I adjust the green parktime from the standard 8 secs to a more reasonable 5 mins, using a freely available utility called wdidle3. Improves use-ability of green drives for NAS service. Do a quick search for park time and adjusting the wdidle wait to park. In fact, you should make this parktime adjustment if you intend to push this HDD into a RAID or NAS service. 🙂

I was using a WD 4 TB Green for Windows 10 File History, but it was nearing full capacity (raw photo files do that :-). B&H had this 6 TB for a good price. Now I have plenty of additional space (for the time being!). I had to delete a couple of files from Windows for it to recognize the new drive, but thus far, it is working just fine.

Used this device for my operating system after a hard crash. Product arrived on time, and in great shape. Running smooth as a baby’s bottom. Good price as well.
