Plug and play; just the way I like it; I’ve had several WD portable drives and have never had a problem. The transfer speeds from my iMac are quite fast. Remember the days of the big, clunky external drives you had to plug in? I’m glad those days are over.

If you are a gaming fanatic like me, this is a must have for your game system. The hard drive is very easy to assemble and comes with an installation guide to help get it set up. It also has a super speed USB cable that plugs right into your laptop or game system, whichever you use, and is compact in size and very portable. This portable storage unit adds up to 4TB of storage space and has some very nice little perks. This includes password protection to keep all your stuff protected and safe, backup which is easy to use and super helpful in case you encounter any type of component problem and the security software also has guided instructions to help you get the most of your protection. There are drive utilities to help you manage things like safety and organization of your storage materials. With a 3 year limited warranty, you can feel safe with the device and functionality. The drive is compatible with Windows 10 and newer. I’m super pleased to have added this to my set up and having the expanded storage space I need to feel confident in my gaming with memory and being able to save bigger files.

Small. Compact. Does the trick. Good recommendation for the B&H sales guy.

Had a WD My Book that I was using for a Time Machine Backup. It had taken a couple of tumbles and I felt it was time to replace it. This is a lot smaller than the My Book. Decent transfer rate for the price. Would buy again

I needed a low cost, fast external drive to store data and applications. This one does the trick. I have been using it steadily for about 2 weeks now and it has proven to be a winner.

WD 5TB My Passport for Mac USB 3.0 External Hard Drive. Easy install. Handles my 2 and 3Gb photo files quickly, along with other file transfers. It allows to use my thunderbolt port and speed to my advantage. Nothing is really fast enough for me but its a reasonable start at a reasonable cost with reliability.

Crashed after 4 months of use.

Excellent for Media Backup. 5TB are ideal for backups of professional audio recording and or video editing.

This HDD is fast. I tried to copy/past 5.4GB archive file from my LenovoThinkPad e550 (16GB RAM DDR3 / Intel core i7 5500 CPU @ 2.40 GH X 2 / HDD 1TB ext4 file system) to this WD 5TB My Passport HDD. Process needed 1 minute & 9 seconds. The same process needed 14 seconds when I repeat it with Sansung SSD SATA3 2.5 inch 870 EVO connected to my laptop externally via Orico SATA3 external enclosure. In both cases I connected externally located disk to built-in USB 3.0 port of my Lenovo. I think it is excellent speed for HDD with data transfer speed of 5Gib/sec to complete copy/past of 5.4GB file over 1 minute & 9 seconds. Combining this with it’s size (5TB) it’s price (109$) is cheep !

too slow for editing, but works as a backup drive.

Worked right out of the box with time Machine.

Great little gadget that I used to free up some space on my computer. After that I was going to just use it as backup and had it plugged into a front port of my desktop but it was making my computer very very slow!!! So I just unplugged it for now and if I need it in the future I may try to plug it into a port in the back which may possibly work…???

Install like a snap and runs quietly.

-1st one was working fine. Formatted it to get rid of the 100% USELESS data mining software on it. So far so good. -2nd says Read Only/Write Protected. What?! The useless software says I HAVE TO install a 3rd party software on it! Riiiight! Some wasted time on Win/WD forums later turns out it should be error checked first, and you can remove the attribute in DISKPART after. Win10 says the drive has errors. Needs repair. This is NOT a new thing. Seen reports from 2017. What WD have done to fix the problem and ensure their customers can use their products? Nothing. They mass produce it and hope some will work. Now off to drive an hour so I can send this paperweight back and wait till the next is here and hope it works. Make sure you buy it weeks before you need it.

I love the wd passport. Its small, lightweight, and easy to use. I use it to keep all my music and movies on, and back up important files. Works perfectly and is super quite.

My first Passport has lasted 5 years! Still going. but reviews say its average life span is about 4. So, I purchased this one. All my storage drives are WD. The best.
Fabiola Kuhlman (verified owner) –
I was hesitant to purchase this as in the past I purchased a 4gb drive that was extremely slow to load. Just the opposite with this drive it loads fast and it was easy to install.

great product because of it’s size, it will however take quite a long time if you are backing up a lot of data: 2 TB took about 13 hours. I would certainly recommend it to anyone with a lot of photos and documents.

I needed a larger backup for all my footage from the last two seasons of wildland fire. This drive will serve that purpose perfectly at a decent price and leave room for next season as well.
