This is my second one, the first having been in service for more than two years now. Installation was virtually transparent. Just came up immediately as another drive. Reliability has been excellent. I run these using Windows System 7 Pro on Dell computers.

This hard drive was really easy to connect to my imac and start using.

As a photographer I need reliable external drives to store my photos. I have used WD drives for years and find them reliable and easy to step. I purchased two drives – one primary and one for backup. I was not disappointed and would recommend them to anyone needing an external drive.

During this past year I have purchased 6 of these drives, as I have previously found them to function properly. Of those 6, only 2 have functioned properly. Of the last 2 purchased, one crashed the computer immediately when I tried to download images. The second one appeared to function properly for 4 days of image downloads, and on the 5th day none of the files could be seen or accessed. I was on a wilderness trip to remote Alaska to photograph Grizzly bears and was now without any means to download my images. Now that I am back home, I hope those images on the second drive can be recovered. It seems these external hard drives are now being poorly made and without adequate quality control. My recommendation is DO NOT BUY the WD Passport.

Although I still had memory space on my old WD, it was extraordinarily slow and often not responsive. I finally replaced it with this, and it’s fast and backing up efficiently.

I like a lot, very slick and easy to use. I use it mainly to back up my macbook pro and also works great with my time machine!!
Brendan Nicolas (verified owner) –
it worked, arrived in good time, and was very well packed.

This is being used a redundant back up and has operated as expected so far.

Happy, what I expected.. Fast recognized from my lap-top. Simple formatting. Didn’t used it’s application – No need of this. Smaller dimension than previous WD Passport 4TB, that I bought five years ago for almost same price. Thanks, I’ll buy again when I filled this 🙂

I like case size. The design is also good. Reliable WD.
Jasper Toy (verified owner) –
It is really very fast… Thanks a lot!

Purchased this drive to record church services to be viewed and uploaded at a later time. It’s storage size allows me to load more than 100 services without a threat of exhausting space.

Its a snap to set up. As a backup attached to my wifi router, it can be accessed by several computers; and it takes up so little space. No noise! I am using it mostly to backup large picture files as they accumulate, while in the process of converting hundreds of old slides to digital. It replaces two old desktop drives that were dying and very noisy. So far there are no complaints.

Very good price for 5tb external hard drive. Already formatted for Mac.It is so convenient to use. Also like the connector for dual port.It has both of USB 2 and C in one.A very good idea especially for limited numbers of port in the computer. I like it.

I have 5 units of this product, all from B&H, and all run flawlessly!! If I ever need another one, I’ll be back here to B&H again!!

I back up my best photos on this device and keep in my bank’s lockbox. Works well.

Long term storage that does not break your bank.

Started malfunctioning after a couple months of light use. 2 weddings (800 or less RAW files) and 3 small photo sessions (100 or less RAW files) backed up and it started either not taking files at all or going painfully slow accepting about 2 files in 1 hour before it just stopped. SECOND Wester Digital Hard drive to malfunction on me within a couple of months. I will NOT buy WD ever again.

too slow for use as an editing drive, but works fine for archive.
