Contrary to WD website description, product is NOT compatible with Chromebook

I use heavy duty RAID 1 drives and expensive RAID 0 drives for video editing. I’ve backed up on these WD Passport drives and have even done some editing on them and have never had a problem. Great product. Reliable.
Emmalee Streich (verified owner) –
Super easy to use, just plug it in and you’re ready to go. With 4 TB of storage, I was able to fit my laptop backup and all my photos with plenty of room to spare. My only complaint would be the cable is a bit short, I’ve accidentally unplugged the hard drive when moving my laptop by accident.
Sunny Hamill (verified owner) –
I love how light it is. Also, uploading large files, it works quickly.
Dante Schmeler (verified owner) –
Not too bulky for a 1TB, perfect size.

Western Digital My Passport Portable offers a large capacity and fast performance in a compact, good-looking external hard drive. Fast and easy to use and the price was right.
Wilfredo Weimann (verified owner) –
Passport external hard drives are still my favorite hard drives for backing up files.

I love having this 4TB drive in a compact size, and it’s definitely my favorite external hard drive so far, writes quickly, and is super reliable. Only thing that I’ve noticed is that it sometimes buzzes against my desk, but if I move it that sound goes away. It definitely is quiet, but if your perception is attuned to it, you might hear it, there is also a slight vibration when you touch it, so that’s probably why it buzzes occasionally when it’s not flush to the surface of the desk.

Had an extended trip to Australia and purchased this to backup my laptop hard drive. Performed wonderfully and made the trip and shooting much more joyful. Had a bad experience recently with another manufacturer but the Western Digitals keep going without a hitch.

I love the wd passport. Its small, lightweight, and easy to use. I use it to keep all my music and movies on, and back up important files. Works perfectly and is super quite.

I bought this WD 2TB My Passport drive because I had already bought a 1 TB for my laptop and really liked it’s size and usability. The 1 TB I bought while in Florida to back up (clone) the SSD. It fits easily in my laptop carry bag. When I got home, I really needed one for my desktop SSD as I had been using a full-sized WD HD & always had to attach a clumsy connector device. This one is SO MUCH EASIER! Plug it in and run my cloning software. BTW, I have ALWAYS used WD drives because I had a failure with another MAJOR brand and I couldn’t get satisfaction for their service department. I have 4 always connected to my desktop for photo backups, and a couple of loose, bare drives.

Over the years I’ve purchased a dozen Toshiba external USB 3.x HDDs from B&H, and whether the operating system was Windows 7 or Windows 10, the power saving features of the drives work well. If the drives are plugged into a USB 2.0 port, the LED indicator glows white; if plugged into a USB 3.x port, the LED indicator glows blue; if the drives are in use the LED indicator blinks, but when not in use, the LED goes off. It appears that HDDs in this current series of WD My Passport USB 3.2 Gen 1 (2019) never turn completely off. When in use the LED indicator blinks rapidly; when not in use the LED indicator blinks slowly. I’ve purchased five WD drives from B&H in this (2019) series: three 2TB drives and two 5TB drives. None of them turns completely off when plugged in but not in use. It may be the case that when plugged in but not in use the power drain is just as low for these WD drives as for the ones from Toshiba, but the LED indicators don’t give one that impression.
