Aside from its 4TB of storage capacity, it’s built with 256-bit AES hardware encryption to help ensure your files are protected, and features USB 3.2 Gen 1 connectivity for fast transfers. It and comes formatted NTFS for Windows 8.1 and 10, but may be reformatted for other operating systems, and connects to your host system using an included micro-USB to USB Type-A cable. Users can take advantage of WD’s Discovery and Backup software to help manage and back up their files as well.

I really like the My Passport portable storage. I’ve only had it for a couple of weeks, but it’s simple to use. It’s user-friendly. Just plug it in and look it up in your finder, follow setup instructions and you’re good to go. I just wish Western Digital would make one of these things with more memory (i.e., 10TB).

The drive is plug and play for basic utility. Worked immediately backing up my files and integrating with time machine. It was relatively fast compared to my G Drive that was only USB 2.0 compatible. Directions are non-existent if you want to do some advanced programs like partitioning. Need to go to web for those details. It meets my basic needs flawlessly and is good value at that.

Bought WD 1TB Mypassport to backup files on a Dell w/ Windows 10. After installing, the drive asked to register with WD. Registration kept returning to Please register your WD external drive. The backup software never opened. I have re-installed several times with the same problem. I’ve used a Mypassport for Mac for several years without problems. I’m returning as a defective product.
