Aside from its 4TB of storage capacity, it’s built with 256-bit AES hardware encryption to help ensure your files are protected, and features USB 3.2 Gen 1 connectivity for fast transfers. It and comes formatted NTFS for Windows 8.1 and 10, but may be reformatted for other operating systems, and connects to your host system using an included micro-USB to USB Type-A cable. Users can take advantage of WD’s Discovery and Backup software to help manage and back up their files as well.

Started malfunctioning after a couple months of light use. 2 weddings (800 or less RAW files) and 3 small photo sessions (100 or less RAW files) backed up and it started either not taking files at all or going painfully slow accepting about 2 files in 1 hour before it just stopped. SECOND Wester Digital Hard drive to malfunction on me within a couple of months. I will NOT buy WD ever again.

I just use a few of these to back up my RAW footage from a recent production. I haven’t used them as working drives. The size is great! …even with the ‘Nomad Rugged Hard Case’. They fit nicely in an offsite safe. Large storage!

Brand new 4T My Passport plugged into my PC, when Im trying to start the automatic back up from the App, displays the message, that computer does not “see” the drive. Yet, I was able to save some files on this drive by simply copying them into this drive. And the manual is nowhere to be found. Very disappointing.

I use this product to back up 3 different laptops and it works great. The software loads quickly onto the computer and is intuitive to use. Backup takes awhile but that was expected, but the program works in the background and doesnt tie up your computer. Can also be left connected and constantly update.

I’m using this to backup video files and images. I’m a professional designer who uses a ton of equipment. This one was a slam dunk as far as usability, size, performance and convenience. Some software needed to be installed for it t pop up – but that is pretty typical. I’m using it with a laptop (macbook 13) and a desktop computer.

I bought this in order to have a reliable, compact backup for my MacBook Pro Retina, which only has a 256g flash drive. That’s not enough but will have to do. I’m not spending the extra for 512 or larger, so I’ll learn to stop saving so many files. Or I’ll simply store them here on the 1TB drive. I may also investigate backing it up on the cloud, but I’ve had difficulties with internet connections and speed. I’d rather have my files at hand and back up files in the cloud.

I ordered 3 of these external hard drives to do a rotation back up for my computer. Of the 3 only one worked. This is not due to any fault of B&H. They came sealed from the manufacturer. I am a little worried about the drives themselves 2 out of 3 failed drives, that would not even show up on the computer when plugged in. B&H was wonderful. They refunded my money and gave me a paid mail for return. I couldn’t wait for a reorder as I needed them right away. B&H was very helpful and had me off the phone in a short period of time.
