Aside from its 4TB of storage capacity, it’s built with 256-bit AES hardware encryption to help ensure your files are protected, and features USB 3.2 Gen 1 connectivity for fast transfers. It and comes formatted NTFS for Windows 8.1 and 10, but may be reformatted for other operating systems, and connects to your host system using an included micro-USB to USB Type-A cable. Users can take advantage of WD’s Discovery and Backup software to help manage and back up their files as well.

Claims “plug and play out of the box”, came, plugged in and projected a “corrupt drive” window onto my screen. Should have bought the higher quality product rather than try to save money.

I was in a crunch & this was the only drive big enough at Best Buy that I could buy. Worst mistake ever. Bought the drive during the day, transferred everything, that night it started slowing down with the transfer rate, then the next night it bricked. This is supposedly a very common thing with these cheap drives. Many who don’t complain say they have more than 2 more to back up on. Which seems ludacris to me. I would rather spend a lot on a very reliable SSD, instead of buying 4 or more of the same cheap drive that is gonna brick over time. Don’t make my mistake if you’re a videographer working with 4k quality and up files.

I have been using WD My Passport drives for years, and have had a number of different models. They’re only getting smaller and less expensive while also getting faster and offering more storage. Can’t go wrong.

-1st one was working fine. Formatted it to get rid of the 100% USELESS data mining software on it. So far so good. -2nd says Read Only/Write Protected. What?! The useless software says I HAVE TO install a 3rd party software on it! Riiiight! Some wasted time on Win/WD forums later turns out it should be error checked first, and you can remove the attribute in DISKPART after. Win10 says the drive has errors. Needs repair. This is NOT a new thing. Seen reports from 2017. What WD have done to fix the problem and ensure their customers can use their products? Nothing. They mass produce it and hope some will work. Now off to drive an hour so I can send this paperweight back and wait till the next is here and hope it works. Make sure you buy it weeks before you need it.

Plug and play; just the way I like it; I’ve had several WD portable drives and have never had a problem. The transfer speeds from my iMac are quite fast. Remember the days of the big, clunky external drives you had to plug in? I’m glad those days are over.

I purchased this for use as a backup with an Intel NUC that I’m using as a web-server. The web-server has 4tb of storage, so I have Windows set to backup the contents of the web-server onto this drive. It’s working great!

I have been using the older verison of this drive (12 disks) and now they have this newer version. So I bought two of these to use as backup disks. So far they are working properly. It is always scary to buy hard drives that have not been tested/rated by customers so I will update this review immediately if one of them has any problems!

I only used it for a few months or so, then it just stopped working. I would plug it in and a notification popped up saying it had “malfunctioned”, Looking for help. I believe my cord could have messed up, but I need more info about the cord type to buy a new one.
