Old school design, but gets the job done if you just need some external storage.

This hard drive is awesome. Very affordable for what it is and easy to carry around. In addition, I am sure it will hold up great as Western Digital is a super well known and trustworthy brand. This thing is awesome and I’d recommend it to anyone – my dad already bought two!

Works perfectly out of the box. Feels well made; small enough to carry around… love having tons of space to back up all photos including all the thousands of RAW files I have!

Over the years I’ve purchased a dozen Toshiba external USB 3.x HDDs from B&H, and whether the operating system was Windows 7 or Windows 10, the power saving features of the drives work well. If the drives are plugged into a USB 2.0 port, the LED indicator glows white; if plugged into a USB 3.x port, the LED indicator glows blue; if the drives are in use the LED indicator blinks, but when not in use, the LED goes off. It appears that HDDs in this current series of WD My Passport USB 3.2 Gen 1 (2019) never turn completely off. When in use the LED indicator blinks rapidly; when not in use the LED indicator blinks slowly. I’ve purchased five WD drives from B&H in this (2019) series: three 2TB drives and two 5TB drives. None of them turns completely off when plugged in but not in use. It may be the case that when plugged in but not in use the power drain is just as low for these WD drives as for the ones from Toshiba, but the LED indicators don’t give one that impression.

Works well, plug & play. Increased capacity of P/S 4 was 500GB, now can get many games with out deleting others.

Use these drives for transferring video and audio files. Very reliable drives. If you have USB 3.0 capability, the transfer speeds are amazing.

I am using with myMacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports). Plug and use. You can password protect. It comes with two cords, one thunderbolt and one USB 3.

Great price and delivery by B&H, but product not my favorite, I’m spoiled by quieter drives that spin at same speed and store comparable amounts. I am keeping it, but will only use for quarterly backups.

This hard drive was a great price for a lot of storage !

Long term storage that does not break your bank.
Abdullah Legros (verified owner) –
It could be a little faster, but it serves me well as my laptop’s main drive.

Excellent unit. Working well so far.

I grabbed this with my new MacBook w/retina display so I could fit my iTunes on the computer. It’s plenty fast with the USB 3.0 and it make no noise. Also since it comes prepped for MAc it carries none of the space wasting extra software of a PC portable drive.

Using it to backup photos and files from my MacBook. Easy to setup and use. Works great with Apple Time Machine

All its ok

This is my second hard disk of this model. Bought the second just weeks after the first one based on the slim profile and good performance on my MacBook Pro.

The 500gb Passport drives I recently purchased will only be used for backups; so far so good. The drives arrived quickly and in great condition. I purchased the drives from B&H due to previous purchase experiences with them. I purchased various photography equipment from them back in the 70’s and 80’s. I have always had very good service and advice from their employees.

This product is very slim and light. The speed is fast. It is a lot better than my older version of my passport.
Jarret Stark (verified owner) –
It literally stopped working a month after i bought it. No reason. Didn’t fall, it just stopped working.

Works well, made well and has built-in encryptation.
