Always have your files on hand with the red WD 4TB My Passport USB 3.2 Gen 1 External Hard Drive. Designed with a slim form factor, it’s also available in a variety of colors to suit your style. Aside from its 4TB of storage capacity, it’s built with 256-bit AES hardware encryption to help ensure your files are protected, and features USB 3.2 Gen 1 connectivity for fast transfers. It and comes formatted NTFS for Windows 8.1 and 10, but may be reformatted for other operating systems, and connects to your host system using an included micro-USB to USB Type-A cable. Users can take advantage of WD’s Discovery and Backup software to help manage and back up their files as well.

First off, I’ll start by saying that I am extremely brand dependent when it comes to backing up my digital files. I currently own multiple external drives from companies like HP, LaCie, WD, and iOmega. So far I must say that this drive is my favorite. The next best is the LaCie because i’ve dropped it a bunch of times and it absorbs the shock perfectly without damage. This drive arrived in no time at all, well packaged. First thing I noticed when I plugged it in was the response time which is about twice faster than any of the other drives I have used (all using the same firewire cable). The transfer rate of data was incredibly fast as well. The drive doesn’t get hot compared to the other drives I use(d). The size makes it fit in most men’s jeans pockets and definitely any purses. Overall I love this drive and will most definitely be buying more of them for my family and for myself as well.

If there was a way of giving this 0 stars I would. I bought this drive in December of 2021. It has been sitting on my desk since just after Christmas. It has never been dropped, it has never even so much as been moved. No sooner was I finished ripping some 2500+ CDs to FLAC than the drive just started clicking. Click, click, click. Nothing seems to work. I’ll try plugging it into a Linux laptop & see if I can at least retrieve my files.

I’m using this to backup video files and images. I’m a professional designer who uses a ton of equipment. This one was a slam dunk as far as usability, size, performance and convenience. Some software needed to be installed for it t pop up – but that is pretty typical. I’m using it with a laptop (macbook 13) and a desktop computer.

I bought this at the end of April 2021. I was skeptical when it arrived in a box with NO PROTECTION and thought it must either be very strong or surely it would not work. The first time I tried to load anything on it, it gave me an error. Tried again and it will not even show signs of life. First time I have bought anything from B&H and had it be a complete fail!

I had two of these plus one other (different brand) that just died. I keep three at all times to keep in three places for safety backup for my computer and photos. I have used WD for many years with no problems and that is why I’m replacing my other brand with WD.

During this past year I have purchased 6 of these drives, as I have previously found them to function properly. Of those 6, only 2 have functioned properly. Of the last 2 purchased, one crashed the computer immediately when I tried to download images. The second one appeared to function properly for 4 days of image downloads, and on the 5th day none of the files could be seen or accessed. I was on a wilderness trip to remote Alaska to photograph Grizzly bears and was now without any means to download my images. Now that I am back home, I hope those images on the second drive can be recovered. It seems these external hard drives are now being poorly made and without adequate quality control. My recommendation is DO NOT BUY the WD Passport.

This hard drive has been fantastic. I’d been backing up with a much older drive and needed to back up a lot of high-res photos, graphic design files, and videos. I could not believe how quickly this drive copied them over. I’m thinking about getting a second one just to be a Time Machine backup with my Mac.
