WD 5TB My Passport for Mac USB 3.0 External Hard Drive (Midnight Blue) Purchased 06/10/2020: Backed up my data and storage allows for many additional activities and tasks.

Bought this on sale and was a great deal.

It’s more space than I know what to do with! This is good since I plan on doing high quality projects and want them in a separate space other than my computer.

Red Colored design was pretty impressive and I really liked how it actually looked, but the performance was really bad. The disk itself failed within a week and it took me close to 3 weeks to get mine refunded.

Works as described for all file types.

I’ve been buying these WD Passport drives from B & H for years & this one is the best so far. I’m amazed by the speed compared to the others, it’s so much faster. This new version is also a bit smaller in physical size & easier to carry. Great drive. Very happy.

I’ve most always used My Passport for backing up my photos. You plug it in, it’s ready to run, and unless you drop it really hard it’s going to keep on humming, even years later when you need to find that old image.

fast and dependable

Came with USB cable, plugged into USB3 socket, installed WD software that is on the drive, and backed up over half a terabyte onto it in a reasonably short amount of time. But, for true redundant backup, I think I need another!

I heard great things about WD hard drives and had an older 1TB version that has lasted 5 years without any issues. I’ve only had this hard drive for a couple months but so far, I haven’t had any issues with it either.

I have dozens of these drives and they are very reliable as a backup solution.

Reliable drive at a great price!

I have only had it for a few days, so the main thing I can say is it works. Other than that, here is what CrystalDiskInfo says about it: Inside the enclosure is the WDC WD50NDZW 5000.9 GB drive. The interface is USB (Serial ATA). The transfer mode is SATA 600. The standard it follows is ACS-3 Revision 5. It features S.M.A.R.T., APM, NCQ, TRIM. And its rotation rate is 5400 RPM. Beyond that, it is in an elegant black enclosure, is USB powered, very quiet, and its temperature is is 36C after about 12 hours being hooked up to the computer so far today.

Great external hard drive. Works amazing with my MacBook Pro. plug it in and it takes care of itself
Jarrett Gleason (verified owner) –
Small, easy to transport and use. It is also quiet and has a light to show you that it is connected. Just plug in and go!
Reed Wolff (verified owner) –
No complaints, works well with MacBook Pro. Plug it in and it works…

I love this red passport, I use it to back up my digital files while on the road during my photography assignments. The files transfer quickly and I have always been happy with the preformance and reliability. The bright color makes it easy to see in my gear bag where most of my equipment is black and gray and the compact, low profile design makes it easy to fit into a side pocket. This is a great external drive that has given me extra piece of mind for storing and backing up my digital work.

This is the worst external drive I have ever purchased, and I have purchased many through the years! I bought this to use as a Time Machine backup. I should have been worried right away when I could not click on the Privacy Policy during setup, without the setup freezing and, thus, having to start anew. It did not work on my Mac out of the box as touted; I had to reformat the drive. I managed to get one backup done, but there were no files in it. It would not do automatic Time Machine backups; I need to eject the drive and reconnect every time to get it recognized. Then, there are still no files in the backup. In addition, it was a ridiculously hard process to do an online warranty with Western Digital, and it’s not even a device that is listed in their support menu! Buyer beware!
