It’s my first time to order to this company and I choose to have this WD and I didn’t regret coz 5* for the shipping method and how fast it was,5* again for their customer’s service for fast response. And of course 5* for this lovely WD and it’s working great. Thanks B&H.

Have only used this for a few weeks now, used for storing video files shot on a 7d that are processed in FCP 10. No problems so far, USB3 seems to be just about as fast as advertised. Not sure how rugged it is as the black bit is made out of plastic, and hoping not to find out anytime soon.

Its a snap to set up. As a backup attached to my wifi router, it can be accessed by several computers; and it takes up so little space. No noise! I am using it mostly to backup large picture files as they accumulate, while in the process of converting hundreds of old slides to digital. It replaces two old desktop drives that were dying and very noisy. So far there are no complaints.

Nice compact size & it just works right out of the box. My only concern is 5TB enough for what I bought it for, which is ripping ~2500 CDs to FLAC.

This failed almost just two months of usage. Absolute no drop or any of the sort. It’s just stopped reading. I had high expectations of WD but was disappointed, just like others that failed too. Either I’m not lucky or WD is just pure garbage now. Sigh!! Time to find another option.

I love having this 4TB drive in a compact size, and it’s definitely my favorite external hard drive so far, writes quickly, and is super reliable. Only thing that I’ve noticed is that it sometimes buzzes against my desk, but if I move it that sound goes away. It definitely is quiet, but if your perception is attuned to it, you might hear it, there is also a slight vibration when you touch it, so that’s probably why it buzzes occasionally when it’s not flush to the surface of the desk.

I was hesitant to purchase this as in the past I purchased a 4gb drive that was extremely slow to load. Just the opposite with this drive it loads fast and it was easy to install.

Ideal for travel and on the go backup for my MacBook Pro. Simple plug-and-play.

Got it for external storage for my PS5. Small with lots of space at a great price, plus dealing with B&H it came fast and even more important I got to save the tax with my Payboo card!

One of the reasons I bought this particular drive was because it had a Backup program. I thought, not being told differently, that the purpose of the Backup program was to be able to use the drive as a backup for my computer. That is not the case. The purpose is to backup the hard drive to another drive. I have not tried moving the program to my computer to see if it will work going from the computer to the new My Passport, but I can say that I will be terribly disappointed in Western Digital if that doesn’t work.

I’ve been looking for a larger portable USB drive as the last piece of my photography storage and backup solution. I really wish they made an 8TB model but the 5TB capacity is certainly a welcome improvement over the 4TB models. I have two WD MyCloud devices that I use for storing my photo images. RAW files go on one device and my Lightroom DNG files on the second. I then synch each of those to a WD MyCloud EX2 Ultra for on-site backup. I also wanted to have an off-site backup copy. I’ve tried cloud options but in spite of having 250+ GBps download speeds my upload is terribly slow and it’s not practical to synch. This 5TB WD Passport solves the problem. I connect it to the back of the EX2 and use the built-in USB backup tool. You can set it in synch mode so it only backs up changes, or you can do a full copy. Once the backup is done, I take the Passport to my office then bring it back every month to update. This way I have redundancy from disc failure, device failure and a location disaster. It’s a little bit of manual work but worth it.

This is my 4th Western Digital Portable Hard Drive. I use them all to back up different photo catalogs on my MacBook Pro. I purchased this one to replace one that I’ve had for over 5 years. The original one is still working fine, but I’m always hearing horror stories of portable hard drive failures, so I purchased this one as an extra back up. I use these hard drives on a daily basis. I use Adobe Lightroom to organize my photos as well as editing. I have several different Lightroom catalogs and use a different hard drive to back up each of them. I ALWAYS use Western Digital Hard Drives! So far (5+ years of use), I have never had a problem with any of them.
