Expand the storage on your Mac and back up photos, video, music, and documents using the silver 4TB My Passport Ultra USB 3.0 Type-C External Hard Drive from WD. This drive is equipped with 4TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. If your Mac doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Mac, it comes preformatted HFS+ for macOS Mojave, High Sierra, and Sierra. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable HFS+ driver for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Windows compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

This is a quality portable drive so far. Setting it up was easy and very straight forward. This drive is compact and well built. It has a USB 3.0 which comes in handy when copying large files. I recommend this for transporting media and backing it up.

Drive works fine, no issues. I don’t use the software that comes with it so I can’t give any feedback on that.

Seagate drives are slimmer, nicer looking and work just as well. I really wanted to get the Seagate – I travel often with many drives and the slim factor is big advantage. But I love the hardware encryption feature in the WD drives. I use it for Photo Editing (with Lightroom) via the USB 3.0 interface and it seems to work fine thus far.

Have been using this drive for now about a month, and absolutely loving it. I use it now as my main back up and storage drive, and put about 3 old drives worth of content on it, and use old ones as secondary back up… yeah maybe too much, but love how much space this one has, and the security password, and other options that come with it make it even better. Haven’t been happier with a drive before like this one. Definitely recommended.

I bought this as a project drive. I have 3 active projects on the drive. I usually get drives with multiple ports incase something happens, but all of the Passport drives I’ve owned, I’ve never had that problem. They are fast to load onto a computer, I can edit 4K ProRes without proxy’s.

Works great for pc backups and file transfers. Lots of space to fit every digital thing you own.

I had no problem loading the programs that came with it, but they don’t work properly. Reason being, the backup program is proprietary to Western Digital and doesn’t always work like they should. I had to erase/format the entire drive and used the windows backup program which performed flawlessly.

Easy set up. Works out of the box. Performing as expected so far. Single ups connections sans power cord a plus.

I work between an office and my home and need an easy way to transport large files. I use a 1TB drive for work and bought a 2TB drive for myself. This has done the trick and is very easy to use. I did need to reformat the drive for a Mac which is also easy to do. I just looked up the directions on line and it took about a minute.

Easy to use. Fast. Compact and light weight. I use them constantly to store all of my photo files, and keep one in my safe deposit box (on a rotation schedule) at all times — it’s small size makes it easy. I did have one crash on me recently after two years of hard use, but I didn’t hesitate to replace it with an identical model.

The hard drive required an Internet connection and a submission or your email address to use the drive. Annoying. I sent it back.

I have two of these to back up my data and photo files. I alternate backing up between them on at least a weekly basis, more frequently if I am gernerating a lot of files or doing alot of photo processing. That wasy I am never going to lose more than a week of data out if something happens and I have a major hard drive failure. I picked this because: (1) it was affordable; (2) it is easy to use (just plug it in and let it interface with your computer for you; (3) compatible with both USB 2.0 (for my almost obsolete current computer) and USB 3.0 for the one I am almost ready to buy; (4) plenty of storage for my current needs; (5) compact and easily transportable. It is not meant to be continuously plugged in to your computer. Unplug it when not actiely backing up. Otherwise, get one. It’s nuts to not have your data backed up if you have things on your computer that you don’t want to lose.

I had bad experience with WD drives in the past but I decided to give this one a try because the size and portability were a big plus. Well, after 6 months of regular home usage the drive just died. One morning it started clicking and ticking, and I lost more than 1TB of my music and photos collection.

Awesome hard drive with traditional WD quality. Sharp silver look.
