Expand the storage on your Mac and back up photos, video, music, and documents using the silver 4TB My Passport Ultra USB 3.0 Type-C External Hard Drive from WD. This drive is equipped with 4TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. If your Mac doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Mac, it comes preformatted HFS+ for macOS Mojave, High Sierra, and Sierra. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable HFS+ driver for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Windows compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

Should have taken the advantage of the holiday sales on it buying three instead of just two. Works as expected on this model. Nice to use for backing up files, small with coded password. I have been a faithful BH customer for decades. Great outfit! I have my oldest and the youngest two kids who are interested in photography buying from them too. Thanks.

I have owned several WD Passport portable hard drives, and they continue to get faster and hold more data within the same size chassis. I would highly recommend this hard drive to any and all computer users. Perfect for data transfer, backup, or extending the storage on your system.

Compact, works faithfully and quiet. I average maybe 85Mbps using the drives with my Asus All-In-One desktop computer. I have 4 of these drives plugged into a corded HUB. But my speeds are the same, whether plugged into the HUB or directly into the computer. I stream movies from the drives with no problems and transfer files on and off the drive continuously with no problems. I have put each of my 4 drives in the Western Digital Nomad hard case and they do not overheat and stay new looking. I recommend buying these drives. Now I’m wanting to buy one of the metallic ones!

I use these drives to backup all our digital footage, and they are in the company color. Easy to throw into my back pack and bring to shoots.

The 2TB hard drive is a extremely solid unit and appears to be very durable. I own several for photo backup and they have performed flawlessly.

All my mobile external drives are Western Digital and they have never let me down so far. This includes this drive that I use as backup drive since December 2018. Never had any problems with WD drives. I can only recommend these…

had a minor issue last month, called Seagate and they walked me through a fix – probably the best experience ever for tech support!

Easy to use, just plug usb into computer and it’s set to go. I don’t have usb 3.0 so my experience is not as great as it would be with a faster transfer rate. Nonetheless, it’s light, portable, holds a ton of data, and is reasonably priced.

Only slightly bothered that this drive is 2017 model because it passed WD drive tests and seems to be working properly. The software that comes on the drive is also 2017, which is not current. Downloaded more current software from WD website. Like the password security feature. My previous Passport came with a nice cloth bag for storage; this one did not. Bottom line… good value for $45.

I tried to use this HD to extend the capacity of my laptop’s HD. Unfortunately, this drive is incompatible with later OS X versions I had Yosemite and upgraded to El Capitan in hopes that an upgrade would resolve issues) Searches online showed that Windows systems are also affected (Search for WD Passport ultra not mounting or wd passport ultra not recognized) I had an old OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) floating around and it was able to read the disk. I tried formatting the WD drive for Mac and try again in later OS, but it still wouldn’t work. Had to return it. Also, by using this drive you agree to binding arbitration, which severely limits your ability to seek redress for any issues that might arise. That was a definite put-off for me, and the incompatibility issue sealed it for me. Got a Seagate, and it works like a charm.

Love the size. One complaint(I noticed someone else had mentioned) The connection cord is EASILY disconnected. NOT like my other WD drives this size. Gotta be careful not to touch when working. Maybe some duct tape is called for.
