Expand the storage on your Mac and back up photos, video, music, and documents using the silver 4TB My Passport Ultra USB 3.0 Type-C External Hard Drive from WD. This drive is equipped with 4TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. If your Mac doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Mac, it comes preformatted HFS+ for macOS Mojave, High Sierra, and Sierra. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable HFS+ driver for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Windows compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

I have 5 of these for storing wedding photos and they work great. I especially love the fact it runs off of phantom power.

USB 3.0 drive allows you to transfer files pretty fast. Easy to carry, not too big.

This hard drive is a good buy for the money. It works well, has a nice design and is very small. I am satisfied with this drive for what it’s being used for, but there is one issue I have with it.The main problem I have with this hard drive is the time it takes to become ready when it comes out of sleep or stand-by mode. Given this is a bus powered hard drive, it enters sleep mode after minutes of inactivity. I have a smiliar drive, the Western Digital Elements 1TB drive, and whenever it enters sleep mode it only takes 4-6 seconds to become ready. With this drive, WD Passport Ultra, it takes anywhere from 15-20 seconds. This issue is problematic for me since I need quick access to my files. It is not a serious issue, but it can get frustrating over time.Other than that problem, the drive performs nicely. The transfer speed via USB 3.0 is good (anywhere from 40-80MBps) and its size is great.

Pluged it and started using the HDD for back ups. It has a fast transfer rate with USB 3, personally would like a thunderbolt port, however, it is limited by the HDD speed rather than by the USB transfer rate.

Bought this for video and picture storage. Expect as good as service as with 3 other portables by WD that I own.

Bom custo x benefcio. O programa da WD que vem junto deixa o computador um pouco lento, principalmente se tiver pouca memria. Recomendo s utilizar tais facilidades se necessrio (Backup na nuvem, senha etc.).

I’ve purchased 2 of these to keep my computer backups safe. They allow me to perform backups at over 1Gbps across USB 3.0 and they have never failed me on any computer yet.

This is my D: drive, for thousands of digital photos. I have another Passport that I use for backup, and keep off-site. Larger (TB), smaller (size), no power cable needed, and faster than my failing external.

The My Passport Ultra disk works great with my Macbook pro. The USB 3.0 connection is fast. There is plenty of room for my photos. I am semi-professional photographer and I shoot in RAW. Each of my Photoshop files reach up to 500mb. So this serves me for my ever growing needs.

This portable drive was supposed to be a plug and play device but all I kept getting was errors. First I was getting the error The request failed due to a fatal device hardware error, then after several tries and switching of USB port I got the error The file of directory is corrupted and unreadable. I found out about the WD Drive Utilities software, downloaded it and ran the test on the drive which after several tries would not pass the second test. From the same utilities I decided to delete and format the drive and then finally it became what it was supposed to be a simple plug-and-play installation. Just when I was getting ready to call seller to return the drive. So far it seems to be working (kind of slower than I expected but is working). I don’t think I would buy a similar product from same manufacturer again. This experience gave me the feeling that the drive, although working for now, it may break down too soon.

I bought this to store my photo library on. You have to reformat it for Mac before using it. After that it works perfectly. Speed is good. I always buy WD now after having a couple seagates fail.

I got this because I need a backup hard drive and the discount price was great. It does the job will and looks really nice. So far, I don’t have any problems with it. Hope it can keep it that way.

Took a few minutes, but the backup found the Microsoft back up program and started to back up my files.

Using this to back up video during location production. Heavier than I expected. Non deluxe enclosure, but who cares?
