Expand the storage on your Mac and back up photos, video, music, and documents using the silver 4TB My Passport Ultra USB 3.0 Type-C External Hard Drive from WD. This drive is equipped with 4TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. If your Mac doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Mac, it comes preformatted HFS+ for macOS Mojave, High Sierra, and Sierra. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable HFS+ driver for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Windows compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

The only reason that I am giving this drive a four (4) star rating instead of a five (5), is that I have not had this drive long enough to know if it will make it the distance… Having siad that, it works great (note, I deleted all the contents of this drive when purchased, as I am using purely as a video drive (movies)).

I bought this to back up my lap top seems to be working OK

The USB-C cable comes loose in MacBook Air and in iMac. I spent $15 more on a third-party replacement cable which does work. Not what I was expecting from Western Digital – and not acceptable!

Really happy with the storage size for the price (I got it on sale, so even more of a bargain). This is now I believe my 4th WD brand external hard drive, and I think the 3rd I’ve bought from the My Passport line. Never had any issues with any of the My Passports, and so far this new one is holding up just as well as my now 5ish year old ones. The only downside, which has nothing to do with the hard drive itself or the company… I bought this for my PS5, and found out after the fact that externals can only be used to store PS4 games. I had purposely gone for 5TB assuming I would need massive amounts of storage for extremely large PS5 games. It’s okay though, I’m sure I’m still going to rinse through storage space with PS4 games anyway– it’s never a bad idea to buy the larger storage size. Just pointing it out in case anyone else had the same idea I had.

Great compact HDD with lots of storage. Got myself two of these in 4TB to replace my old 1TB, 2TB chunky powered HDDs. A hell lot more portable and simpler without all the extra cables and weight. Transfer speed quite good between 80-100MB/sec on average over USB 3.0 – small files still a lot slower though but this is the same for all HDD. Really like the metal look which I feel helps with passive cooling.

This is a nice, compact drive that is also aesthetically pleasing. It worked great once I got it connected, but I had to replace the included USB C cable in order to do that. The connections were very loose, and ill-fitting. Drive would not mount until I changed the cable.

It is amazing how much smaller this 2TB drive is compared to my other 2TB drive from a few years ago. Portability is key.

Very easy to install and the initial backup took about 20 minutes. The backup software is installed on the drive. The actual available storage is closer to 1.36 than 1.5 but so what. It’s still huge.

It’s not the fastest drive, but it holds a lot of 1’s and 0’s. I use it for backup of big video files. It takes about twice as long to transfer to then a raided drive, but it’s also smaller and bus powered.

These WD drives are a goof buy! This is my third and I’m very happy with them! Anyone who doesn’t back-up their stuff is going to pay for it eventually!!!!!

Bought this to backup my PC hard disk. Used the WD SmartWare to do automated backups and it seems to work pretty well.
