This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Mac, it comes preformatted HFS+ for macOS Mojave, High Sierra, and Sierra. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable HFS+ driver for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Windows compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

So far, so great (I’ve had it less than a year). I use it to automatically back-up everything on my desktop pc. It does just that, unobtrusively (it’s very compact and silent). Only the blinking light assures me it’s doing anything. It looks and feels rugged. I’m impressed that Western is confident enough in its product to include a three-year warranty (limited of course); not that I would ever test a hard-drive to its limits. At this price point, I will replace it within the next year. It’s USB-powered, another plus (I have more ports than ac plugs). I’m totally satisfied.

I use it to backup short film footage. It’s small and was cheap. I think it was good value, but only time will tell. The chord connection does not seem to be to sturdy.

The drive is quiet, looks good on the table. So far so good I have had the drive running for about 5 hours so far with no problems. I feel the drive is worth the cost. Loaded up and started running on the Mac as soon as I powered up.

It appears to work as expected. However, it continually hums as though it is constantly searching and will not shut down or eject. I contacted WD and they suggested that there may be a conflict with my antivirus. Well, I have had many external Hard Drives and have never had a conflict with my antivirus in the past. So, what does that tell me?Not very happy with WD right now.
