Expand the storage on your Mac and back up photos, video, music, and documents using the silver 4TB My Passport Ultra USB 3.0 Type-C External Hard Drive from WD. This drive is equipped with 4TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. If your Mac doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Mac, it comes preformatted HFS+ for macOS Mojave, High Sierra, and Sierra. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable HFS+ driver for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Windows compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

The shipping was super fast, and the product works great. I use this portable hard drive to back up my photo and video files. It does as expected. I didn’t use the back up software.

Before I bought this I was considering the DBY8L0020BBK-NESN which was cheaper. However this is what I finally went for. It’s very fast, quiet and very compact. Also this one comes with a 3 year warranty instead of 2 years on the other one. Comes with online backup too.

The WD brand is very thick, almost seems like a hard disk from 2 years ago. Not convincing enough that this is a 2016 model. The Seagate and other competitive brands are much sleeker. I also have the Seagate 2 tb model which I love. i am not getting the comparable disk speed either when using it with my macbook 13 air, so I’d recommend NOT getting this brand. I didn’t want to go through the hassle of shipping back as a return and then order another one as I don’t plan on travelling with the WD disk, but unless WD comes up with a better model – I’m very disappointed with this purchase.

If you need portable, secure (encrypted) storage, buy this drive.

This 1.5TB drive does exactly what I needed it to do -back up my Mac with timemachine and all my photos. I have a LOT of photos and wanted them all in one place. I considered getting a 2TB drive, but for the price, this one won out. It worked great with a quick reformat for my Mac. I simply transfered a couple of the pertient documents to the computer and had timemachine reformat the drive. The only thing I dislike is the flashing blue light on the drive (only when it seems to be asleep). I only notice it at night, so I can live with it. Other than that, I don’t even realize it’s sitting right in front of me.

5TB is what everyone needs. And they’re cheaper now because of Bitcoin mining.

Works as expected however I had to contact Western Digital because the software would not work with Windows 10. Easy fix but I’m glad I caught it. It looked like everything was backed up but you couldn’t open the files.

Easy to set up but would have liked a written (short) set up booklet.

I’ve had a few of these. The last one kicked the dust after surviving about 100 falls so no complaints. They all perform well and now I’ve done it a solid by buying my latest one a hard case: highly recommended if you are like me. I can’t believe my phone is still working.

WD external hard drives rule. So easy to use and reliable as can be. It’s a no-hassle no-brainer to go with WD. And the 5TB is not too chunky, either. The USB 3.0 makes it easy to use with my Mac.

I’ve been buying Verbatim DVD+R discs for years and they are always a great price and great quality. No coasters here…

I use this to back up 3 home computers. Even with newest updates of software doesn’t always let me safely remove (unplug the usb connection) when the time comes to do so. This is an ongoing issue that WD doesn’t see fit to resolve. I’ve had WD backup drives for many years and though the drives have all been flawless for me, their packaged software has always been quirky or downright scary. If you have the savvy or desire, might be best to use different backup software. The HD itself seemed to work fine and the USB 3.0 is nice and fast compared to my older 1 TB My Passport.

have dealt with B&H 30 years for pro equipment. would never deal with anybody else. I do not ever have a problem giving $ to B&H.

This device is pretty easy to use once you understand the software and how it works — I’ve a fairly decent basic technical knowledge and I had a little trouble, but now all is great thanks to the amazing technical assistance at B&H!

I bought this unit as a replacement for my previous 2TB My Passport Ultra, which unfortunately stopped working (and lost all information stored) after falling from the sofa I was sitting on. I know that HDDs are not SDDs, but WD could at least equip such portable units with a more rugged construction, capable of withstanding minor falls. It is a very good product, but it has to be handled with care!

I purchased this due to a change in my Carbonite coverage and it was ideal for the application I had. Very simple to install and use.
