Expand the storage on your Mac and back up photos, video, music, and documents using the silver 4TB My Passport Ultra USB 3.0 Type-C External Hard Drive from WD. This drive is equipped with 4TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. If your Mac doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Mac, it comes preformatted HFS+ for macOS Mojave, High Sierra, and Sierra. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable HFS+ driver for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Windows compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

Great drive, I’ve had these and the smaller ones for years. Reliable drives, traveled well with me, just protect from large shocks.

I use it for backing up my files on a daily basis. 2TB is just right for me. The write/read speed is fast since it’s USB3.0 ready. WD is always my first choice!

Passport makes some of the most reliable portable hard drives I’ve used. I do a great deal of sport photography and store copies of all my files using these hard drives. Highly recommend passport portable hard drives.

Had some bad experiences with WD drives in the past. Many of their early USB-2 portable drives had a chip set that was slower than snot, often less than half the speed of my other USB-2 drives. These, however, are as fast as any other USB-3 2.5 inch drives we have, are really solid and small. We use these as archive drives for our Apple Time Capsule Backups.

I got this to replace a WD 2TB backup drive; the footprint of this drive is the same as my 2TB, but t’s a tiny bit thicker. I’ve only had this for a couple weeks so I can’t comment on long-term reliability, but so far it performs as expected: it’s fast (for a small USB drive), quiet, and doesn’t run hot (to touch) when copying a large number of files at once.

This is my second 1.5TB My Passport from WD. The first one worked so well for my needs that I decided to purchase a second one to essentially backup the first one. You can never be too careful with HD’s and backups. No issues whatsoever so far with these drives and the portability is also a plus. These can fit pratically anywhere if you need to take your files on the go.

Doesn’t work like a back-up hard drive like I thought it would. No different than a USB storage device. I had to copy and paste into it. I get a bunch of error messages- can’t copy this file; need administrator permission; can’t copy that file because it’s in use; can’t copy that file because I can’t find it, etc. I am the administrator; nothing is open except as required to copy and paste the files. The software on the device can’t even find it’s own device; the device actually shows in one tab of the software it comps with, but when I try to run it to back up my system to the device, it says it can’t find the device. How come it can’t find itself to run a back-up? The Toshiba external drive I bought 6 years ago and 2 computers ago was much better. You could just tell it to run the backup and it would save everything. You didn’t have to babysit it and skip a bunch of stuff. Also, the type C connection is supposed to make saving / transfer faster, but it doesn’t; it’s very slow. When I use the adapter to a standard USB connection, it actually runs faster. This device is a waste of money. Just buy a USB drive with a lot of storage.

This is my second passport. The first was a 1TB model and it performs brilliantly. I was so satisfied with the first that I bought the 2TB model and it worked just as well.
