Expand the storage on your Mac and back up photos, video, music, and documents using the silver 4TB My Passport Ultra USB 3.0 Type-C External Hard Drive from WD. This drive is equipped with 4TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. If your Mac doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Mac, it comes preformatted HFS+ for macOS Mojave, High Sierra, and Sierra. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable HFS+ driver for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Windows compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

Given that the 2 TB version only cost a glass of wine more than the 1 TB, it was a no brainer. It is very fast. Only downside is that it is a bit wide. I formatted it so I can use it with my chromebook and it works great. Bought a nice case for it.

I have several of these drives that I use for photography. Carry them around and occasionally drop them. Work flawlessly.

Xbox one memory was really low wiyh the sad 500gb they give you so did some research and like the reviews for this 2tb drive, Took about 2 min from unpacking it to formatting and it was recognized by xbox one and working, this review is about 2 1/2 weeks after purchase and no problems. Worth it, xbox recommends a specific external brand but I think its just because they have a deal with seagate.

The product says it works with the Sierra OS on a Mac; not true. It did work on my laptop with the Catalina OS, which is the device I wanted to use it on longterm, but I needed to download files from the desktop first, so I had to do a work around. It works fine on the laptop.

Love the portable size and great storage capacity. Easy to take anywhere and it’s fast to access all my stuff.

4 TB of storage (more than my computer) in a compact, attractive housing. No separate power supply required since it is USB powered. Does not clutter up your desk. A minor negative is the brightness of the white LED. It could almost double as a night light (I just fold a 3×5 card and set it to block the light when the computer and I sleep). I use it with File History set for daily backup. My WD My Book died after just over a year when it was used as a continuous backup. This one has only been in use for about 2 weeks and I’m hoping for better results.

Using this with my MAC PRO 2013 to store Files related to film making. Great price at the time this was written for a 2TB HD USB 3.0. Prices will probably continue to drop as USB – C is rolled out. I have no intention of upgrading computers anytime soon so this is perfect for me.

How I use this product: – I have been using the WD My Passport portable HDDs in 2TB sizes since 2009 with no problems to keep my volumes of images + videos as a photographer. It’s where I keep organized archives of finished JPEGs of work I might need to bring up again and RAW files of all my work with their changes. Because I shoot much more, I decided to upgrade to the 3TB size. What’s great about it: – For a portable, self-powered portable HDD, this thing transfers pretty fast with USB 3.0. I usually get speeds around 75MB/sec 120MB/sec using my PC from 2012. It’s very compact and if you get even the neoprene case that they make for it (costs only a few bucks), you can be confident it’ll be safe with decent everyday handling & care. What’s not so great about it: – I feel like you may want to take care of the port where you insert the USB 3.0 cord. It does seem like it can wiggle a bit if you move it around a lot. As with any cords, it’s always a good maintenance measure to take when you keep the cords positioned so it is not bending too much or wiggling. Overall: – I plan to get another one for 2017 when the time comes. I haven’t had any failure and I’ve dropped some of them a couple times on a mildly hard surface, once or twice and they’ve been fine. Good transfer speed and portable size, I like it! =

The continuing progress in storage density, while expected, is still a very pleasant surprise when you hold it in your hand. Here we have a package a bit smaller than a 3 x 5 index card (same width, a tad shorted on the long edge) and 0.75 thick. Weighs 8 ounces and holds 5 TBytes! Even discounting for the disk-drive industry’s penchant for base 10 trillions rather than base 2, that’s a lot of storage in one tiny package. No issues powering over a USB 3.0 interface, using the USB 3 to USB C adapter included. Opens up wonderful possibilities for disaster recovery. Thanks B&H & WD.

Fast, easy to set up and use, and compact. Would give it 5 stars if you could do a system image backup, but not able with the software provided.

I ordered several of these.. including 3 I believe, from B&H.. I use these HDs for archiving files. They get very little use, and just sit in a dry, cool place, and I have seen most of these fail on me. None of them mount quickly. I have to wait several minutes while the light is flashing, but no HD is appearing on my desktop. I have all of these formatted for my Mac BTW.. They should mount faster than that. Most of them have slowed waaaaaaaay down in their ability to upload data, by at least 50% slower if not 90% in some.. than the HDs that I replaced these with, which are the: WD 4TB My Passport USB 3.2 Gen 1 External Hard Drive (2019, Sky) -those are much better, they are fast, retain their speed, mount quickly.. I have them formatted the same exact way, and I just want to transfer all the data from the old ones, and smash them with a hammer, which would be very satisfying..! Crap…! These are absolutely crap..!

The Western Digital My Passport is a good, reliable portable hard drive. We’ve had a lot of success with these at work where they’re not always treated with extreme care.

Sufficiently fast and well constructed. It doesn’t feel cheap and flimsy. The storage capacity is great especially for the price. It’s just what I needed for storing photos and videos.

I primarily use this USB powered drive to move files from my cameras to drive while on the road. I also use it to save other files which I need while on the go. Its size is very compact and it has power on LED. It does not have ON/OFF switch I do not use built in back u software as I do my back up on my own site

It’s a harddrive. It uses USB. It works. Only con is that the light at the back can be pretty bright if you’re using it in a dark room.

We used the product to store video of a weekend series of workshops and a concert/awards ceremony. It has plenty of storage space and is fast. Ideal for audio/video storage. It is small and light and very portable. We gave it to the videographer to load with all his video. He got it back to us and then we gave it to our website manager and social media director to excerpt onto Facebook, Youtube and our websites. Ordering from B&H was simple and fast. The price was fabulous and it arrived very fast. We are happy in every way with every aspect of this transaction and the product.

Great transfer speeds with USBC but low build quality.
