This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Mac, it comes preformatted HFS+ for macOS Mojave, High Sierra, and Sierra. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable HFS+ driver for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Windows compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

However, I researched these external hard drives and decided that this WD Passport had great reviews and everybody said it was easy to connect. I was expecting that it would take me most of the day to get it connected and operating, but it took only about 15 minutes. It works great! Wow, maybe I will try something else now.

First thing I did was format it, now just using for photography back up, so I don’t overload my computers hard drive. Now, while working on my photos in Lightroom, I work directly off this external hard drive instead of the computers hard drive. Works without any issues.

the passports drive are outstanding and I am big fan. Unfortunately when i read Ultra Portable on the site contrasting with the old model I understood it would be MORE portable than the old model I have – IT’S NOT. Even the picture shows a slighter device but when it comes to a 2TB the size is the same and the old 2TB device… I little frustrated.

This is a very cool looking drive that is compact but yet has enough storage to back up multiple computers with huge drives in them. The included software is extremely user friendly. I am very relieved that I am finally backing up my drives with this unit which I keep locked in a fireproof box in a separate location for safekeeping.

Ive always liked WD drives but ever since I changed over to Type-C the slightest movement with my computer makes the drive accidentally eject. Its not the WD drive itself, as my G-Tech drive is doing the same thing. I believe it is the Type-C cables that are not great.

Small, lightweight portable HDD is a great deal for the money. It’s relatively quiet and fast (based on connection, USB 2 or 3). I’ve never had issues with WD drives, so that weighed significantly in my purchase decision, along with features and price. Rated 4-star only because performance over the life of the unit is immeasurable at this time.
