Expand the storage on your Mac and back up photos, video, music, and documents using the silver 4TB My Passport Ultra USB 3.0 Type-C External Hard Drive from WD. This drive is equipped with 4TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. If your Mac doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Mac, it comes preformatted HFS+ for macOS Mojave, High Sierra, and Sierra. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable HFS+ driver for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Windows compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

I knew nothing and still know nothing about external hard drives and how to do much with them, but I wanted to make sure I had something to store pictures and documents in case my PC stopped working. After reading on line reviews, I figured this was the item to get. Great price and massive storage. I was able to move everything that I wanted from my C drive to this portable drive. It didn’t come with any instructions, but it didn’t have to. It was really easy. I’ll admit that I did a youtube search for a demo of the drive. It was as easy as they showed on the video on youtube. I don’t know how to copy my entire operating system if I wanted to do that, but I’m sure I could find out how. The thing is really quiet and small. I can carry it in my coat pocket if need be. I don’t know the difference between moving items from one PC to this unit and an actual backup of info, but I’m sure I can find it on line. For my needs, this was very easy to use. Hopefully it lasts forever.

Very easy to use. Didn’t need 500GB, but this was the smallest size I could find! I had a Hitachi portable drive before, which I would not buy again, but decided to go with WD because the reviews were so favorable. And so far, it has met my expectations. B&H also had the best price, which is usually the case on many of their products!

As always BH ships so quickly I don’t know how you do it. As a partially retired videographer I not only archive current projects but also rearchive past projects. I don’t know how long those older hard drives will last. Today we have larger hard drives than ever before at affordable prices. I find myself archiving more items than in the past.

I wanted a large capacity hard drive that didn’t need external power. I have used Western Digital Passport drives before and have been very pleased. This drive is USB-C and fast. It’s simple, just attach the cable, plug it in and it just works. B&H has a great price. I’m glad with this purchase.

I use it mainly to offload video materials on location at the end of the day for backups or for giving to other people. It usually peaks at speed of 100MB/s with 120MB/s CF cards and around 80-90MB/s for 95MB/s SD cards or for reading from it. Love the fact that it is small, portable, fast, and can hold lots of data. I have several of this, never had a problem.

I have two of these drives along with three 1st-generation Passports (all 2 TB). I run them USB 2.0 through a powered USB hub connected to my laptop. On this drive I mostly store video (VOB) and music files (mostly .wav) and never run into any problems watching movies or listening to music. (Many people cite arcane speed data that in my experience has very little meaning in real-world usage. I never experience any lags or slowdowns due to USB 2.0.) The drive is lightweight, runs relatively cool, and is completely silent. I like that WD no longer pre-installs backup programs on these drives. All applications are contained in a folder on the drive, so installing is completely optional and up to the user. I do recommend the diagnostic program that is included.

I like the product, i thought ultra will be thin size it’s actually bigger than the seagate 2tb model. Has good inbuilt security. On time delivery.

I like the size and portability compared to other back up drive and is fast enough to video editing. Seem durable but I have only had it for a month

recommended. Nothing to do for a Mac if you get the Mac version. Fast and easy. USBc connection with USB adapter if needed.

I am a fan of Western Digital, but the last external I had was a few years old and was always quite slow. However, after doing my research, I found this My Passport HDD had a good capacity (1TB) to form factor proportion, has USB 3.0, AND comes with the PRO WD software included for under $100 bucks. No other manufacture offers all of that for that price (at least, as of this review). Needless to say, I wanted one and it turns out so did a lot of other people because everywhere it was sold out – even *! B&H was the only place I found them and I had heard good things. I was worried about shipping costs but there was a free option if you could wait a few days and I received my drive as promised. The drive is really fast (of course it will be slower using USB 2.0) and quiet and I love it so far!

Compact and fast: USB 3.0. I transferred 500GB from another storage unit very quickly and easily. Use it often for my backups: so far so good.

I use this drive for archiving video recordings, and it’s handy for that, as it’s small in size and is USB powered, and doesn’t use a separate power supply.

It does what it claims (holds data). The encryption software is easy to use. Seems like a good value.

I have always trusted Western Digital drives, and this one is no different. Like may others have found, the USB cable is a piece of junk. It doesn’t lock positively in place, and I replaced it with a much better one I already had. Problem solved.

USB 3.0, and 2TB – what else can you ask for. This external is great for the price along with the free cloud software (I don’t use this but it is nice for those who might need it). I would highly recommend this external.

We love these hard drives , they are so sleek and take up very little room on your desk. The added attraction of no more bulky power cords makes this a no brainer for our photography studio .
