Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Mac, it comes preformatted HFS+ for macOS Mojave, High Sierra, and Sierra. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable HFS+ driver for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Windows compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

Might be a bit slower than I remember the 1.5 WD Passport being – but still a good and easy to use external, portable hard drive. It looks nice and is solid. I hope I like it – I have two more waiting to be used!

I have had many WD hard drives and haven’t had a failure yet. Great size for packing and it has many storage options. I know how tough these drives are since my wife dropped it several times from about 2 feet on to cement. Still working.

The USB mount does not work and w=I went trhough 4 cables. WD would not take back the drive. They initially said it was a bad cable. I told them thos was the second drive of the same class that this has happened too. They said it could not be the drive. They are wrong and I would not suppost this brand anymore. I am on to thinderbolt / lacie no more USB. And no WD after the bad support.

The external hard drive works as advertised on my Mac. I haven’t measured the data transfer speeds, but it felt pretty quick. My only complaint is that the cable supplied with the hard drive didn’t work. I tried plugging it in multiple ports but no luck. Luckily I had a USB C to USB C phone charger cable that came in handy.

Well, it does pretty much what you expect of a hard drive. I bought because it’s cheaper than Lacie and G-drive, but still offers a very good performance and storage capability.

Upon connecting My Passport Ultra to my computer the software did not install as advertised. I had to install all 3 manually but only the backup software worked. I had to contact WD customer service to correct. They gave me a link to troubleshoot the problem but the troubleshooting results were not consistent with the instructions. Eventually I was able to troubleshoot and fix the problem myself. It appears that the drive is working OK but getting it to that point was a headache.
