I have used several brands, and I trust my critical workloads to WD. These drives perform really well, and I have never had one fail. This is my go to drive for home and enterprise use.

Ive only used the drive for a few weeks, but it seems ok. I replaced a fried WD 4TB Black Caviar that died under warranty. I send the 4TB drive in to WD for warranty replacement and should get the replacement this week. Very quick turnaround, btw. The WD 6TD drive supposedly has better specs – Higher MTBF, Cache, etc, but I dont see much of a difference in my applications. I also thought that since this is a NAS drive, it might be more robust. Remember, regardless of which drive that you get or how robust it is supposed to be, rule #1 is to always backup

The Red Pro drives are solid built and strong performing. They offer greater reliability than standard desktop drives, though at a higher price point.

I use slide-in removable WD Red drives to securely store video off-line. I also use Reds for the internal RAID-1 working storage. No long-term data on the Reds yet but I have 6 WD Blacks in another system with the same kind of setup that have been perfect for the last 9 years.

Using it with a Synology NAS. No problems.

If you need added storage space you can’t go wrong here. I used this 2 pack in the Synology DS220+ with great results.

Ordered 4 drives 2 of them were dead on arrival. I have used WD Reds for years. With the WD Reds I have had no failures until now. Starting to make me wonder what is going on. Giving it a 3 star just because of track record. Not happy with the current Quality.

aside from the product being awesome. I am in Australia and for me the value and time out reached any thing I could have purchased in Australia. Even with duty, taxs and exchange rate it was cheaper and delivered in record time

Bought a pair of these to replace some old Seagate 3TB death drives I use for backup. I put them in my new OWC dual enclosure, and ran Cystaldisk (2 pass 1GB) on them both. First drive was 260MB/s read, 256MB/s write. Second drive was 255MB/s read and write. Those are sequential…I basically use the drives to backup small and large files. My older 7200RMP drivers were luccky to hit 100MB/s, so this is a sweet upgrade.

Purchased 2x 16TB WD161KFGX (36 dBA seek avg, 20 dBA idle) Replaced 2x 10TB WD101EFAX (38 dBA seek avg, 34 dBA idle) Used in my Synology NAS for backups. During idle the new drives are quieter than my previous ones. Read is probably just as quiet. But writes are pretty noisy. By the specs these should be a hair quieter – and maybe technically they are – but something about the quality of the seek / write clicks is much more distracting than the quality of the noise from the 10 TB Reds (CMR, later rebranded Red Plus). It’s noisy enough that I’m considering putting my Synology on a power schedule so it’s not bothering me during work hours. This NAS is in a small home office with mostly Apple equipment. To understand the noise levels I expect, I replaced the Synology system fan with a Noctua and can still hear it, but it’s a more acceptable level. I wanted to move up to 16TB and I’m willing to pay for 5-year-level warranty from Pro, but now I’m wondering if I should’ve waited for a 16TB Red Plus if WD pays more attention to noise quality on this.

Time will tell how reliable these drives are, but to date there have been no problems at all. In my experience, B&H always takes care to package hard drives correctly so they arrive undamaged. Have been buying WD Reds for over half a decade now and none have failed me yet. Of course, it’s only a matter of time — all HDDs will eventually fail. But those that are well made to last a long time offer a better value for my money. WD designs the Red drives for continuous operations in Network Attached Storage systems and that’s my use case. The PRO iteration of the Red series offers a higher RPM and is worth the added cost.

After much research- I decided on the Red Pro drives of my Drobo 5dt. Ordered 5 of them, all arrived quickly and have been running non-stop since. Quiet and secure data storage.

First off, fast and safe shipping from B&H! I am slowly upgrading the storage capacity in my Drobo 5N (also purchased from B&H years ago). There are a couple of things to note if you will be doing the same: – My original config was 5 x 4TB drives, and I recently started running low on free space. If you want to increase capacity, and all current drives are the same size, you will have to replace TWO drives as mentioned here: http://dashboardhelp.drobo.com/guide/250/en/5N_Adding_Capacity_or_Drives.htm. – At the time my 5N was originally configured, the firmware only supported 16TB total volume size. That said, after replacing 2 of the existing 4TB drives with 2 10TB drives, I was left with unallocated space, which could not be utilized. The only way to take advantage of the added space was to factory-restore the 5N after updating to the latest firmware (which now supports 64TB max volume size). As my 5N is used purely for backup, it wasn’t a problem factory-restoring and copying everything over again. Otherwise, you will need to back up everything on the Drobo before restoring.

Added four of these to a RAID system and the performance is great

I use these drives for video storage, as well as editing HD footage. They work very well for both. I have about six of these WD 2TB Red Pros and have had no failures to date.

I have an older WD External RAID drive it worked well for 6 years and one drive failed. Replaced with a like model off Amazon, the 2nd shorty failed, replaced it too. One of the replacements died shortly; that when I found it had never been used but was mfg 6 years previously; new but not new and no one would honor the “warranty”. This drive was ordered with the hope it would work in the 6 year old RAiD setup. I inserted it into the drive, and it started rebuilding to match the other drive without me having to do anything more. A couple of days later the 4TB of photo files was duplicated, I am very satisfied. I’m a retired engineer, but don’t have a computer background, but the description provided by B&H gave me the confidence to give it a try, I’ll order a 2nd one to replace the other new but old drive too!

This is my first WD 8TB. Friends and good reviews enticed me to go with this drive. Its still early but so far Im satisfied. The shipping from B&H was fast.

I use this in a Drobo 5D for video editing. I am very happy with the speed, capacity and reliability.

The product was exactly as described and works great. B&H is a perfect place for all your photo and electronic needs.

Western Digital’s 7200RPM class drives are priced high, they’ve stood right by me as a customer for a long time which is why I’m willing to pay a premium for their drives, but it’s still a hard pill to swallow. Across the 30+ WD drives I’ve owned I’ve had only 1 fail on me, which they replaced under warranty. This is many magnitudes better than my experience with other big Hard Drive manufacturers where I’ve had much higher failure rates. For that reason and that reason alone I’ll continue to buy WD drives until they give me reason to reevaluate.
