Solid performing NAS drives

These drives work great in my NAS environment.
Jana Armstrong (verified owner) –
Not the fastest drive out there but I’ve never had one of these fail. Great for large backups.

I have bought many hard drives from you. I trust you and have not had a problem with my product or when I call every one I have dealt with were so kind and helpful.

This WD new big 5TB Red drive! They have another 6TB Red, but it only has 64mg buffer, this bad boy has double or 128mg buffer. Also this drive comes with the same warranty as their back drives, 5 years! The is quick and quiet. Designed to run in a NAS or Server. I need more space and this was the drive I was looking for.

I installed these 6 TB drives in a Synology DS1815+ . They operate quietly , low themperature , and are fast ( I get up to 125 MB/s with my setup). The 5 years warranty is a plus. They are more cost effective ways to store large amount of data , but at my acceptable risk level, these drives provide the best solution I could find today .

I’ve been using this drive in a web server environment for a year or so. It does what it does well.

I bought four of these for my first RAID system and have been happy with the performance.

I purchased 4 of these drives to install in an OWC Thunderbay raid tower. I currently have my raid set up as 1+0. I purchased these drives approximately a year ago and have had monitoring software constantly checking the health of the drives. So far, so good. They may not be quite as fast as solid state but these 7200rpm drives are fast enough for my needs. I’m mostly using them to archive files so they’re perfect for that. They are a bit noisy, but that’s to be expected since they’re industrial grade NAS drives designed to be used in a server room. I have the 4 drives sitting on my desk, while they are a bit noisy, the sound isn’t unbearable. The sound of them spinning is just a bit of piece of mind.

We recently moved and, during that move, my Drobo case, which contained 18TB of hard drives took a nose dive and stopped working…this was all my photos for the entire 21st Century! Luckily, I had everything backed up to Carbonite, but needed to get it back, so I went to B&H’s website, purchased a new Drobo and 3 8TB Drives. I needed the fastest drives I could get, so I ordered these. Since my Drobo is always on, I decided to get the NAS versions. I’m glad I did. My photos have been restoring for less than 2 weeks–I still have a long way to go–but I’m more than happy with this choice and will purchase more as the need arises.

Ordered these bad boys for my Synology DS920 and I couldn’t be happier. I prefer WD Red Pro drives to the regular Reds, because they have a longer warranty (5 years). And their performance (read-write speeds) is really great too.

I bought 4 of these discs and put them in a OWC enclosure. Works fine so far.

Added four of these to a RAID system and the performance is great

I needed to make some room in my external JBOD enclosures to be able to swap in and out an APFS Bootable drive, so I swapped a 2TB drive for this 10TB drive, which game me lots of options for adding a mirror member other multi-drive RAID mirrors. The good news is that with 10TB, I was able to turn many 2 member mirrors into 3 member mirrors. This drive is now part of 7 other RAID volumes. The bad news is that now this single drive is needed any time I write to any of those mirrors. I was able to avoid performance issues by making this drive only be members of mirrors I am using to Archive and store video files and things that are super important, but which I dont need to access as often as some other things. Once I have reason to add a 2nd one of these, I will re-partition it so it has a fewer number of larger partitions. Like I will make it a member in two 5TB mirrors, rather than a member in 7 or 8 mirrors that are 1-2 TB each. Having never hd a drive larger than 6TB, it was not a problem I thought about until it was in and running. The price per TB is good, and the density is amazing. I will purchase one more of these in the next 6 months.

Ordered 2X ‘4-Pack’ WD 6TB Drives (8 total) & received 2 of them D.O.A.! No response from B&H….despite ‘Numerous’ attempts to contact/exchange. Stay Away!

The HD makes metal clicking noises as it’s working. I particularly noticed it while writing onto it.

Added two 6TB RED 7200 RPM WD drives to our NAS. It was second set setup in RAID-1 format. Work, very well. No issues. Good response, and very easy to install. Would recommend anytime.
