Bought 3 of these for a ReadyNAS 316. They work flawlessly, and have been running for about 2 weeks now. Highly recommend, in particular because of the 5 year warranty. These are really quiet too.

I have been a IT professional for 2 decades, so I have used many drives from various manufacturers. Western Digital Red Pro drives are the most reliable with the highest MTBF among all the drives.

Installed in Synology DiskStation Ds1418+. They have been working well so far.

Put WD 4TB Red Pro in two bays of WD PR4100 NAS. Runs 3 times faster than the standard WD Reds that are in the other two bays. Great.
Emily Bradtke (verified owner) –
Easy to install, haven’t had it very long but so far works well
Andres Mann (verified owner) –
The drive is fast but noisy as compared to the WD 2tb it replaced.
Cade Gutkowski (verified owner) –
Western Digital Red pro reliable and works out of the box.

I needed a replacement drive for my Drobo. The existing 500 Gb drive was old and was giving signs of failing. Most of my NAS drives have been Western Digital, so I went for this one. The price was good for a 7,200 RPM CRM drive. Seems to be working well. Time will tell, but I have had good luck with WD drives so far. I would definitely buy from B&H, because some of the other vendor’s do sell drives that have been sitting on the shelf for some time. This drive date of manufacture was 06/14/2021.

Excellent performing drives over both of my NAS systems. Quiet, reliable.

I have eight of these drives in a Synology DS3617xs with room for more. I have trusted Western Digital drives to store my data for years and never had a problem. These Pro series drives are designed for larger NAS systems and have been performing perfectly without any issue since they were installed. Expensive, yes, but I wouldn’t trust my data to anything else in a large array.

I did a ton of reserch before deciding on these. I bought five of these for a Drobo 5DT. No complaints so far.

Used this drive in an Avastor HDX Pro external Hard Drive Enclosure. It was easy to install and format and has worked very well for the past three weeks at least. Am currently using it for video files with no issues.

Needed more diskspace in my desktop for my growing collection of photos. I wanted something fast and multi TB. SSD are still too expensive for this purpose, so I settled on this. Installed it in my Dell 8920 (note: I had to buy a SATA cable). UserBenchMark then gave it some of the highest scores across all HDD, and almost double that of the built-in 1TB Seagate. Using LR Classic CC, it feels speedier when switching between photos.

These drives replaces the 4TB Seagate Red NAS drives I was using previously. The RAID array now has significantly faster read times and better video streaming as the read access time on these drives is better. That said, they are somewhat noisier than the Seagate drives, I can easily hear disk seeks from 3 feet away. The Seagate drives were pretty much silent. Write times using these drives appear to be longer (about 20 Mb/s slower) than the Seagate drives, but the faster reads make up for that in daily use.

Arrived DOA. Wont initialize in my Synology 1512+.

I bought this after reading reports of problems with the 5400 rpm Red. Of course you don’t really know about things like this until many months have past.

WD’s Red Pro (7200rpm) Drives are my server/NAS drives of choice and these 6tb have matched my expectations.
Emma Satterfield (verified owner) –
These are now selling for $0.95 more than the old model of this WD Red Pro 6TB drive with half the RAM on the drive and 9% lower throughput. The 7200 RPM provides 36% higher data I/O rates than the 5400 RPM drives and yet are still relatively quiet drives. For a NAS that is not going to be continually accessed the drive noise levels even in a 5 drive enclosure is minimal and my NAS is less than 3 feet from my desk. The higher I/O rate means that should a drive fail (and these have a 5-year warranty) the time to rebuild it will be much less than with either 5400 RPM drives or drives of greater capacity. With 5 of these in a NAS that is configured for RAID5 I get a total capacity with the formatted drives of a little over 21TB for a cost per TB of $55. The drives were shipped out by in factory packaging and not loose loaded as with some dealers. Expedited shipping though left a lot to be desired as it took 5 days to receive the drives.

I wanted to upgrade my 2 4T WD Red Pro NAS HDD to 2 WD 10T Red Pro. I didn’t want to lose my data along the way. I read the instructions, I sent a note to Synology Customer Care, and I looked it up on the internet. They all said the same thing. But, I was leary. After replacing the first drive, it still showed 4T drive space. Only after the second drive was replaced did the NAS system show 10T drive space. What a relief. Love my Synology NAS that I got from BHPhoto for Christmas and I wouldn’t use anything other than WD Red Pro HDD’s in it. Hopefully, I am now set for a long time. I have 30 years of data and way too many photos. But, I doubt I’ll still be around in another 30 years, so I have faith this will do me.

I bought two of these to complete my NAS set of four. Popped them in and was off and running. Just that simple. Using for backups and additional storage.
