aside from the product being awesome. I am in Australia and for me the value and time out reached any thing I could have purchased in Australia. Even with duty, taxs and exchange rate it was cheaper and delivered in record time

Our Synology NAS is working well with these drives. No problems with them.

I needed to increase the capacity of my NAS and check the server manufacturer’s compatibility list. The WD 8 TB Red Pro drive were the only Enterprise drives on the list for my NAS. I had been using Seagate drives in the past, but decided to give WD a try. The Pro line comes with a 5-year warranty, which helped seal the deal for me. I installed them one at a time, hot swapped them, to format and mirror the smaller drive already in the system. Once that was complete, I removed the smaller drive and installed the second WD 8 TB Red Pro drive to format, install the operating system and mirror all the files from the first disk. My NAS tells me everything is working fine. It has only been a week, but all seems good.

Using this as temporary storage while we build out a NAS for our video team. High quality cheap storage. WD drives have always done well for us.

I have been running these drives in a NAS for a little over 2 years. They have been very reliable. I purchased these additional drives to replace some 4 TB drives in the same NAS.

This disk merely replaces a failed disk and is a direct drop-in replacement.

Bought several of these drives for a multimedia NAS system. It has performed better than expected with quick seek times, and great compatibility with almost any NAS build. These drives are definitely worth the slightly higher price, just for the warranty alone, but for the other reasons I listed as well.

Bought a pair of these to replace some old Seagate 3TB death drives I use for backup. I put them in my new OWC dual enclosure, and ran Cystaldisk (2 pass 1GB) on them both. First drive was 260MB/s read, 256MB/s write. Second drive was 255MB/s read and write. Those are sequential…I basically use the drives to backup small and large files. My older 7200RMP drivers were luccky to hit 100MB/s, so this is a sweet upgrade.

I use this in a Drobo 5D for video editing. I am very happy with the speed, capacity and reliability.

Very useful, professional HDD

I’ve had two drives mirror for the last eight months in a NAS and no issues.

The 7200 RPM speed of the drives has minimal impact on read and write times in a NAS set up for RAID 5 or RAID 6. It does have a big impact on drive temperature. I have a second enclosure that uses the standard Red drives and these drives run 10-15 degrees Fahrenheit lower than the Red Pro ones. The Red Pro get up to 115 degrees when performing a scrub of the RAID. In the future I will set up a RAID to use the Red and not the Red Pro drives.

Paid a little extra for the better fault tolerance. Working fine in my Qnap 4 bay NAS.
Polly Weissnat (verified owner) –
Runs warmer and a little noisier than than the basic red nas, but, worth it for the speed and warranty.

Flawless early performance. Softraid certified the two identical drives the first time. The two identical drives are set up in a Raid 1 configuration. Only time will reveal the quality of the drives.

Used these drives for a Synology DS718+ NAS. Things are running great just a few weeks in – totally happy with the whole transaction!

I found it strange that this model with the 14TB capacity has a 512MB cache while the other capacities have the smaller 256MB cache considering the price per byte is on par with the others. Anyway, it made sense to me to get the larger cache for that reason. I think this drive has a capacity to last the rest of my life. I’m old. I temporarily housed it in an external drive enclosure and plugged it in to a USB 3 port and it’s working beautifully. Eventually I’ll put it in the PC and move a smaller capacity drive from the PC to the enclosure. And even later on, I’ll actually buy an NAS and drop it in there, perhaps with a second identical drive if I decided to RAID.

Used before RED model was good enough. Decided purchased RED pro model with Synology NAS. worked well after 6 months in one day cannot access to NAS , found that orange color is blinking on status. cannot access to NAS. Tried to recover NAS synology but was fail complain to HDD. quality became worse not suggest to buy Red Pro.
