These drives work great in my NAS environment.

Ordered 4 drives 2 of them were dead on arrival. I have used WD Reds for years. With the WD Reds I have had no failures until now. Starting to make me wonder what is going on. Giving it a 3 star just because of track record. Not happy with the current Quality.
Candice Berge (verified owner) –
Well known for their reliability, the drive itself is slower than a conventional 7200rpm HDD despite being a pro. Is being used for home networking, but would not recommend for this application.
Jeremie Flatley (verified owner) –
Heard nothing but great things about these drives and will agree that they are working great so far! All is good!
Peggie Homenick (verified owner) –
Western Digital Red pro reliable and works out of the box.

These drives replaces the 4TB Seagate Red NAS drives I was using previously. The RAID array now has significantly faster read times and better video streaming as the read access time on these drives is better. That said, they are somewhat noisier than the Seagate drives, I can easily hear disk seeks from 3 feet away. The Seagate drives were pretty much silent. Write times using these drives appear to be longer (about 20 Mb/s slower) than the Seagate drives, but the faster reads make up for that in daily use.

I bought this same model, twice, at another online vendor (that starts with an A and has a letter Z in it) and somehow had both of those drives fail. So knowing and trusting B&H Photo not to sell some kind of B Stock I ordered from them and so far, so good!
Lennie Harber (verified owner) –
I bought two of them for my Synology NAS and they are fast , reliable and quiet. A little more expensive than the Normal Red model but the speed is noticeable.
Guillermo Von (verified owner) –
I own three of these for my NAS and they work like champs.
Cedrick Rath (verified owner) –
I bought four of these for my first RAID system and have been happy with the performance.

Time will tell how reliable these drives are, but to date there have been no problems at all. In my experience, B&H always takes care to package hard drives correctly so they arrive undamaged. Have been buying WD Reds for over half a decade now and none have failed me yet. Of course, it’s only a matter of time — all HDDs will eventually fail. But those that are well made to last a long time offer a better value for my money. WD designs the Red drives for continuous operations in Network Attached Storage systems and that’s my use case. The PRO iteration of the Red series offers a higher RPM and is worth the added cost.

Western Digital makes a great NAS drive. I have 4 2tb and 1 6tb Red Pro 7200 drives. These are on 24/7 everyday. They work flawlessly. They are fast and beyond reliable. They are also very reasonably priced.
Scarlett Reinger (verified owner) –
Flawless early performance. Softraid certified the two identical drives the first time. The two identical drives are set up in a Raid 1 configuration. Only time will reveal the quality of the drives.

Easy to install

This is my first WD 8TB. Friends and good reviews enticed me to go with this drive. Its still early but so far Im satisfied. The shipping from B&H was fast.

I’ve always had good luck with WD drives. The warranty for the Pro isn’t too shabby either. These Red Pro NAS drives are what I use in the two NAS systems I have setup. My only complaint is they do sound like coffee grinders when big write evolutions are taking place.

Bought 2 of these WD 8TB Red Pro 7200 rpm SATA III 3.5″ Internal NAS HDD to use in Drobo 8…. Drobo works fine with my old 2TB WD. New 8TB was red marked right away as defective. Tried to use them as single second drive in HP computer – not working eiser.
Lonnie Wuckert (verified owner) –
Bought several of these drives for a multimedia NAS system. It has performed better than expected with quick seek times, and great compatibility with almost any NAS build. These drives are definitely worth the slightly higher price, just for the warranty alone, but for the other reasons I listed as well.

I’ve been using this drive in a web server environment for a year or so. It does what it does well.
Whitney Friesen (verified owner) –
I have been running these drives in a NAS for a little over 2 years. They have been very reliable. I purchased these additional drives to replace some 4 TB drives in the same NAS.
