This 8TB drive operates using a SATA III 6 Gb/s interface, a 256MB cache, and a rotational speed of 7200 rpm, all of which help to ensure uninterrupted data transfers with a sustained rate of up to 263 MB/s. This drive also features high levels of reliability, with 300,000 load/unload cycles and <1 in 1014 non-recoverable read errors per bits read. Also built into this drive are WD’s StableTrac and Dynamic Cache Technology to help increase reliability and optimize performance.

I have only had the HDD installed for a week and it is performing fine. It might be a little faster than the older Seagate it replaced. I am disappointed in all the noise it makes. It is very loud. My Seagate was quite, but only a 2-year warranty. I went with WD because of the 5-year warranty.

Black is beautiful, but it comes at a price: Since the black series of the WD drives are optimized for performance, they have a slightlxy higher wear and tear than let’s say the green rendition, which has lower revs. That said, the black drives are built for for heavy loads and strong performance rather than quiet or energy-saving operation. These drives come with an unusual five year warrranty, and due to heat problems in my relatively small case I had already some dead soldiers. So if you want to use these drives, make sure they are succiciently cooled.

Very Easy Installation. I say this coming from no technical experience whatsoever. I am a musician! But I took a chance on my 7 year old iMac and did a hard drive upgrade. The installation was the easiest part. It runs really quietly and much quicker than the old drive.

They are quieter and run cooler than the old HGST drives they are replacing. B&H always superlative service and super good with delivery etc. Of course can’t be upset until a drive prematurely fails but so far so good. Will buy more, would highly recommend this drive and B&H
