Designed for digital artists, video editors, photographers, gamers, system builders, and more, the 8TB WD_BLACK Performance SATA III 3.5″ Internal Hard Drive from WD is optimized for drive performance so you can spend more time experiencing the things you love most. When paired with an SSD for a dual-drive configuration, you’ll further benefit from the caching of your OS onto the SSD for increased performance.
This 8TB drive operates using a SATA III 6 Gb/s interface, a 256MB cache, and a rotational speed of 7200 rpm, all of which help to ensure uninterrupted data transfers with a sustained rate of up to 263 MB/s. This drive also features high levels of reliability, with 300,000 load/unload cycles and <1 in 1014 non-recoverable read errors per bits read. Also built into this drive are WD’s StableTrac and Dynamic Cache Technology to help increase reliability and optimize performance.

It’s a good item but be aware that it’s rather noisy

Upgrading from 1TBs. I have Caviar Blacks now but wanted to go larger. They’re faster than the old 1TBs and just what I was hoping for.

I need to amend my prior one-star review (Headline: Constant PWL Noise, Work-Stoppage Head-Parking). I was mistaken when I identified this hard drive as the source of my problems! Around the same time I installed the drive, I had also started working with a client who relies heavily on DropBox syncing: I’ve since figured out that DropBox’s constant syncing of team assets is what’s been annihilating my system reliability, and I’ve been managing the issue by Pausing Sync with excellent results. I’m back to loving these drives like I always used to! I’m posting this review to mitigate the old one, and seeing if I can get it taken down.

Bought two of these to accommodate my growing video storage needs. WDs are good quality drives that have served me well over several years.

This drive is everything I wanted for the new PC that I was building; lots of storage space, fast data access and transfer rates, a brand that I trust and a great price

I’ve used WD Caviar Drives for video editing and internal hard drives for my PCs and Macs for years, and I’ve found them to be very reliable.

A customer in my group needed a large drive to store a large amount of data. This WD 1 TB drive suited the purpose. The price offered by B&H also fit the budget. The shipping was also fast and I was able t have their computer up and running in a short amount of time.

WD produces top of the line HDD, not problem at that. However, for new HDDs, they implemented this PWL which suppose to improve longivity of the products. It sounds nice, and yeah it sounds freaking annoying. It causes HDDs to click every 5 seconds even if they are on idle. It is not just the faint clicking you use to hear when they are working, no, it shurks hard that it moves the case so is my desk. I can just feel the vibration. And it constantly keep doing it for every 5 seconds. I bought 2 4 TB and 1 6TB, all does it. So freaking annoying. There is no way a person can stand that in a quiet room. All of mine made in Thailand, I am not sure if that has anything to do with it, but I checked online and it has been the problem since 3 yrs ago. So make sure you know what you are getting. Considering the fantastic return policy BH provides, but it is very annoying for the process. Button line, keep your box so you might need to use it for the return. Fedex charges ridiculous amount for packging. I miss UPS days.

I bought multiple 1 TB WD Black drives for clones and backups in conjunction with a variety of desktops, and to supplement my NAS WD unit. These are great workhorses and I find 1 TB and 2 TB sizes the most convenient. Clones are particularly useful for keeping the computers in service with scarcely an interruption whenever I encounter a hard drive or software problem. I have never had a WD drive go bad and if you have a WD drive you can use Acronis clone program. WD edition free. The retail version includes the mounting screws which are otherwize difficult to find when you need some. Often I find a new computer has several screws missing. Cons:None.

Great drives and great warranty (not that I’ve ever needed it with the black series.) My go to for desktop builds or storage.

I purchased two of these drives. My ASUS deluxe x299 motherboard cannot see them. It sees all kinds of WD drives, but not these new ones. In my research on the web I see that many people are having issues with these drives. I wish I would have done my research before I bought them. Now all I have is two $200 door stops.

Some complain of nose. My computer case is open and very close (3 feet, 1 meter from my ear) and I find no problem with noise. My location is very quite.

Windows 7 64 bit has no trouble with the size of this drive. I partitioned this drive using GIUD however XP does not see it.And I’m not sure why? Ortherwise so far so good.

It does what it’s supposed to do.

As a videographer I need a lot of storage to archive projects. I use these drives in swappable bays to off load finished projects. The price allows me to have many drives available for future use.

B&H was the only online store that to sell the retail package, and identify the model number of the drive inside, to ensure you are getting the latest version – instead of 1002. Everything arrived in good order and better than on time.

This drive is the Master HD in my graphics desktop and now I can depend on its’ quality not to crash. Set up was as easy as it can be and the packaging was very well designed. I purchased 2 of these drives for both of my Master Desktop workstations as OS and program only drives. I will buy much larger WD Black HDs for mass storage and back up. Great HD.

I have no complaints about their performance, but they get very hot. Even when operating them in open air, with a fan running, you will see that they get very hot. If you want to put them inside a computer, you better have fans blowing directly onto the drives. I wouldn’t recommend putting them in a chassis that doesn’t have fans blowing (or sucking) air directly onto the hard drives. The total power consumption, based on the rating on the drive, shouldn’t be more than 10W. But the drives feel like they are burning lot more power!
