Designed for digital artists, video editors, photographers, gamers, system builders, and more, the 8TB WD_BLACK Performance SATA III 3.5″ Internal Hard Drive from WD is optimized for drive performance so you can spend more time experiencing the things you love most. When paired with an SSD for a dual-drive configuration, you’ll further benefit from the caching of your OS onto the SSD for increased performance.
This 8TB drive operates using a SATA III 6 Gb/s interface, a 256MB cache, and a rotational speed of 7200 rpm, all of which help to ensure uninterrupted data transfers with a sustained rate of up to 263 MB/s. This drive also features high levels of reliability, with 300,000 load/unload cycles and <1 in 1014 non-recoverable read errors per bits read. Also built into this drive are WD’s StableTrac and Dynamic Cache Technology to help increase reliability and optimize performance.

The HTPC I am running had (2) 1.5TB WD Green drives that had a been re-used on a couple computer builds. The age of the drives may result in data loss so replacing the drives was a smart move. The 1.5 TB drives have moved to data back-up. A single drive to replace (2) drives is a great advantage.

I have 3 of these 6TB drives running on a docking station. Edited a feature film on these. No issues whatsoever. I recommend.

I have used these Black drives exclusively in my Drobo for many years and have never had one go down. I use them for a few years and switch them out as larger ones become available. They’ve been so good to me that I wouldn’t consider any other brand at this point. I’ve probably had ten.

2T WD Black internal hdd works great. Use it in my external hard drive shell with a esata connection to my D*** Set top Box for much more space for DVR recordings than D***** provides.

Very fast but a little noisy. I added pads to the feet of the drive case to quiet the transmission through the desktop and it quieted down quite a bit.

I highly recommend the WD black series drives. I own three that have been periodically buying over the years as I need space and none have had any issues yet. This drive is great for multimedia storage and is reliable enough to edit on. It helps that they come with a 5 year warranty from WD. Statistically these have a much lower fail rate than other brands and series of drives, worth the extra cost for the longevity.

Great product because of size and price.

Used in my Drobo 5D to store all of my business and personal files. Adobe CS files, Photos, Video and music. Huge storage space, reasonable price.

So far the drives have been great; I bought two. A bit on the noisy side but about 20% faster than my 4tb Seagate with twice the cache. I took off one point for the noise, otherwise I love the drives.

People have reviewed this saying there is a noise issue – and, for me, the drive is about as noisy as my other older drives whether being accessed or idle. It is fast and so far has been rock solid.

I need you to get fast hard drives for my editing setup. Western Digital Black Series is the fastest and I got the best bang for my buck thanks B&H for having a good sale on them at the time I need it.

In what little time I’ve had it, it so far is doing great. Because of it’s speed (7200rpm) it is noisy. Other than that no complaints.

Have had Caviar Blacks for 5 years and just upgraded size in PC. This new drive is quicker and I anticipate will last and while I’ve never had a failure,if it doesn’t, the 5 year warranty will kick in.

I shoot a lot of video, mostly in ProRes422, which takes a lot of space. I record to an SSD then copy the video to a hard drive like this, for editing and archiving the project. I use these in a 5 drive enclosure, and rotate them as one fills up (which doesn’t take long). I don’t recycle the drives, except for data recovery, but keep them in archival plastic boxes for future reference. With a dozen or so projects on a disk, some active, and frequent revisits for clients, it’s impractical to reuse the discs anyway. I used to archive to BD discs, but it takes 5-6 to backup a 128 GB SD card, much less a 2 TB SSD (3-14 hours of video).

I purchased three (3) of the Western Digital 4TB Caviar Black HDD’s for my Mac Pro. The HDD’s that Western Digital produces have never failed on me. Whether for video, music or data storage I can always count on Western Digital to be there. I would and have recommended Western Digital products.

It spins up, it holds data, what more can you ask for. Replaced an old drive that failed in my RAID. Ask me in two years if it’s still good.

I converted to WD HDD’s about a year ago. I had been using another brand for years but, the reliability just was not what it used to be. WD HDD’s have been running perfectly in my machine, no issues to date. Fast Free Shipping from B&H is always appreciated!
