This 8TB drive operates using a SATA III 6 Gb/s interface, a 256MB cache, and a rotational speed of 7200 rpm, all of which help to ensure uninterrupted data transfers with a sustained rate of up to 263 MB/s. This drive also features high levels of reliability, with 300,000 load/unload cycles and <1 in 1014 non-recoverable read errors per bits read. Also built into this drive are WD’s StableTrac and Dynamic Cache Technology to help increase reliability and optimize performance.

Price will always be the most important factor in our purchase decisions. The 2 terabyte WD Black drive is the sweet spot of all the drives as it has an acceptable amount of space (1.8T realistically available) and a great medium price point. But don’t forget what else you get with this, faster than average speeds and a FIVE YEAR WARRANTY. Western digital is pretty much saying this drive will not fail you anytime soon. Above all else we need our drives to work and be reliable, and after 5 years we can switch out to new drives for peace of mind. Great price, honestly good speeds, lots of space, very satisfied with my purchase. I use it for gaming and music production (live recording and playback). No issues. It does make normal traditional HD noise as expected.

If you want a reliable drive, look no further. The 5-year warranty says it all. Western Digital’s Caviar Black drives are so reliable the company is willing to warranty them for five years. That’s the best warranty in the industry. You can buy cheaper drives, but you get what you pay for. I’m not willing to risk my data on a cheap drive failing. I own two of these. I use them for my audio sample libraries, many of which have to be streamed at 7200 rpm, so those crippled 5400 rpm energy saving drives can’t get the job done. One drive is the primary drive, and the second drive is the backup drive. They’ve performed flawlessly and quietly for the last couple of years. In fact, I’ve outgrown them, capacity-wise, so I’m going to replace them with two Caviar Black 4TB drives. But I’ll use the two 2TB drives for other data storage needs. They have many years of reliable service left on them, and three years of warranty remaining. The best insurance against data loss is using a high quality drive, and back it up. Caviar Black drives get that job done. They’re my choice for reliable data storage.

This is an excellent HDD at a great price to keep my files on for my desktop. On it I mostly have games, they start and load quickly and without errors. It is also much quieter than the older HDD that this replaced. I would highly recommend it as a primary drive.

I’ve relied on WD Caviar drives for over a decade and each release has been better and just as reliable in my experience. They’re fast and come with WD’s best consumer warranty, 5 years. This version is also quieter than the previous model and about 30% faster by my estimation. I bought two and they’re running nicely in a software RAID 0 inside a Hackintosh (home-built PC running Macintosh OS) used for video editing.

I use this drive, have now 4 of them. However, this latest purchase was problematic: Arrived DOA! Was not pleased! It was sent back. After some delay and back-ordering wait time, the unit received is purring fine, quiet and fast. So far when in service none of these drives gave me any problem!
