Designed for digital artists, video editors, photographers, gamers, system builders, and more, the 8TB WD_BLACK Performance SATA III 3.5″ Internal Hard Drive from WD is optimized for drive performance so you can spend more time experiencing the things you love most. When paired with an SSD for a dual-drive configuration, you’ll further benefit from the caching of your OS onto the SSD for increased performance.
This 8TB drive operates using a SATA III 6 Gb/s interface, a 256MB cache, and a rotational speed of 7200 rpm, all of which help to ensure uninterrupted data transfers with a sustained rate of up to 263 MB/s. This drive also features high levels of reliability, with 300,000 load/unload cycles and <1 in 1014 non-recoverable read errors per bits read. Also built into this drive are WD’s StableTrac and Dynamic Cache Technology to help increase reliability and optimize performance.

This is a replacement for a 4TB WD Black. So far it performs exactly as expected. I’ve used WD black drives for many, many years and never had a problem with any of them. I have always replaced them in my desktop when their 5 year warranty period is over but keep using them for external back up of my data.

When you start having terabytes of information, you need larger traditional drives as SSDs are still too expensive. The common sacrifice we face from SSD to a traditional drive is loss in speed, but the Western Digital Black’s speed is satisfying and when you move all your files over and still have so much space left, you’l be happy with your purchase. I actually use this drive for a little bit of everything, gaming, video editing, 3d modeling, mass storage, and may even use it as backup to my other drives. I have no complaints. Above all the 5 warranty is really what sold this drive for me. All the others at WD at 2, so this shows WD’s confidence in their black series drives. You wont be worried about speed or space if your drive is dead after all. Noisy like traditional drives, no surprise there.

I replaced a failed green WD 2TB drive with this black WD 4TB. It’s fast and quiet. Hopefully it will last longer than the green drive. It took 12 full days to recover 1.5TB, (43049 photo files) from Carbonite online backup service, at their governed snails pace download speed.

This drive is used in an enclosure for raw storage on a Mac. It is quiet and performs as expected. One needs to be aware that, on a Mac, the drive icon will not show up until the drive is reformatted. Instead, the user will see an error message declaring the drive unreadable. At that point the user will be given the opportunity to format.

At this price point, you are getting excellent speeds and plenty of storage for modern day media and gaming. 5 year warranty puts this drive above all others in its range, FIVE YEARS. Peace of mind for important game saves or priceless family photos. This drive is very light compared to my other WD black drives (2T, 4T), VERY light. The others feel like a heavy brick in your hand, this does not. I use it for gaming and that’s it, no issues, load times are relatively close to my experience with gaming on SSDs drives. We’re talking seconds here, so my experience was very pleasant. Its a great drive, don’t hesitate.

Just as I expected, the 6TB black WD drives were easy to install and fast restoring data from the old drives (which were 4TB black WD drives.

Bought this to go along with the 6TB WD Black HDD in my Plex server. Now I have room for some 4K UHD videos. No complaints!

Compared to an ssd the price per GB for this hdd is much better. This was the perfect choice for me since I needed a larger drive to use for storage and the high price for lower storage capacity ssd was not worth it for me. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for storage on a budget, but are unwilling to give up reliability.

I use these HDDs to archive and store video projects (including the associated video files). So far, so good! Hopefully they’ll function if/when I need to retrieve an archived video file for future projects.

Needed a larger C HDD for my desktop. Installed this as D and Cloned C to it and then switched. Install went smoothly and it is working well as expected. However, a better review will be if I can say the same thing in another 3 or 4 years.

Got it to keep my 256GB OS drive backed up with multiple versions. All good over a year later.

This is for a new computer build with a 250 GB SSD for primary drive and the WD Cavier Black for data. This is my 5th WD Cavier Black – all different sizes. Never any issues or failures like my Seagate Barricudas! Will continue to buy and highly recommend.

I bought this for a gaming/game production PC, and it does its job well. It’s fast for an HDD.

I needed to increase the storage for my data, music and photos on my desktop. I had done research on what I thought I needed and the size I wanted but I wanted to talk to someone knowledgeable about this. So I called B&H because their customer service department and technical department have always been helpful. And once again that proved to be the case. I was correct in my research and I ordered two of the larger drives and received them in just a couple of business days.

I bought this HD as a replacement for my aging Caviar black that I purchased back in 2009 to use as an external. This first thing I noticed upon powering on the new hd was the low noise level. My 2009 version always made an audible resonance, which required placing a book under it to dampen the noise. This new drive doesn’t need it at all.
